NCS Commencement Speaker is a Graduating Senior’s mom?!?

What is she taking away? It’s not like she took her daughter’s spot as the speaker. The daughter will sit in her seat and watch, same as usual.

Nothing. OP is a mean mom grinding her ax because her daughter’s classmate’s mom is prettier and more accomplished.

I mean, it’s high school. There are only so many options for graduation speakers. It makes sense that schools tap their internal connections. Whatever, not a big deal!

I think it is common in private schools. OP must be a public school rube from some dreadful place.

Oh God... You're clueless and dumb enough to admit it.

NP, it’s better than being obnoxious and too dumb to realize it.

Presumably her DD was okay with it or she wouldn’t be doing it. To each their own, but I think many would feel that hearing your accomplished mother speak at your graduation would make the day more special.

It's the over exposure. The girls have listened to her MANY TIMES before. The parents have had her as the emcee at the Auction MANY TIMES. HOS Scully often walks past other parents just to schmooze with Norah. It's gross and a lazy choice.

So your issue is the over exposure of the speaker not that she’s the mother of a student. Sounds like you don’t like this lady and it’s tacky for you to drag the daughter into it.

I am not the OP. I don't know this woman, but it is lazy of the HOS to keep using the same person as a speaker for this class.

Are there dozens of accomplished, well known people not associated with NCS willing to speak for free? I doubt it. NCS isn’t Harvard. I’m impressed they managed to have someone I’ve heard of-even if she’s a parent at the school.

There are many accomplished alums.

Then suggest to the HoS that he call one of the many illustrious alums. Or offer to do it yourself rather than badmouthing a sort of famous person doing a kindness at your kid’s school.

I agree with OP. Way to make the occasion all about her. It would have been a lot classier to decline the invitation.

I think you are being sexist.

+1

+1 Chief justice John Roberts did it for both of his kids.

Sounds like it’s a common tradition at the school and they likely asked her. She’s likely doing it as a favor, not to draw attention. Sheesh, some of you!

+1. It’s so tacky to badmouth a fellow parent for volunteer work.

Sorry you aren’t interesting enough to get invited to speak, OP. I guess complainers and whiners don’t make the best commencement speakers anyway.

Nice try, but no. This thread and all the wonderful folks in it are pure private.

I’m sure Seinfeld didn’t overshadow his daughter at Duke’s commencement.

Another year when you don’t have a graduating senior (so not next year either)? Sure! But, do you really have to take the focus of your daughter, even on her graduation? Let her shine instead of plugging your upcoming book release,

Like I said already…Tacky!!!

Lol, I graduated with a Gore daughter and Tipper Gore was our speaker.

Is your child a graduating senior at NCS? If so, does the speaker selection bother her? If no to either of these questions, why do you care?
