| If the IRS change the tax code to reflect tax free tips, as in tips are no longer taxable income, I will reduce my tipping. All my income is taxed, so why not tips. |
DP. Yes it is. Hate cheap people. Maybe dinning out is not for you? |
|
Don't agonize over it.
Tip a good waitress or bartender well if you are a repeat customer. For bad service don't tip at all. |
| You are petty af op. If a few dollars is going to break you just don’t go out to eat. |
It has been the pay structure of wait staff since before you were born. Don't act cute. |
It's easy to say this when it's nowhere near coming to pass. It's like men who say "I would gladly carry a child." Talk is cheap. |
NYC, day or night. |
At a table service, sure, I know their pay structure. But what about Chipotle or a place where I order at the counter? Or a barista? |
Eh, most people who depend on tip fall in a low enough tax bracket that they don't pay any, or much, tax. |
DP but it varies by location. Some get full scale wages plus tips, some get full wages plus pooled shared tips, some get wages and no tips allowed, some work solely on tips. It's all over the place, there is no standard. |
Ummmmmm no. |
If you look back, you'll see that I didn't tell the PP (you?) what to do. But just as she's free to do as she likes, I'm free to have an opinion about it. And my opinion is that she's cheap and dishonest. Also, "taxpayer costs?" There are no taxpayer costs. It's the cost of eating out. PS - In case you are wondering, my opinion of you is that you have terrible reading comprehension and oddly defensive about this. If you're the PP, add that to the list. |
They are not paid the tipped wage. Feel free to tip, or not tip, as you like. |
Don't hold your breath on that. Politicians are addicted to free tax money to spend willynilly. All politicians are addicts to it. |

The restaurant biz is in trouble. People have less $ and RTO hasn’t impacted lunch and HH as much as expected.
Frankly having a device shoved in my face demanding 20% for fast casual is just a poor experience. I dine out much less often at both sit down and fast casual environments and tipping culture is definitely a part of that. I may reconsider my stance once all of my kids college funds are full. Until then, I prefer to keep more money in my pockets. The service is poor and food low quality. |
