Actors you like as people, but truthfully, just aren't great actors?

Terrible in Yellowstone!

Wasn't that Kevin Costner?
The original show has Costner and the 1923 one has Harrison Ford.

I don't know any actors.

Well I disagree on Harrison ford but totally agree on Keanu.

My unpopular answer will be Nicole Kidman. Her character allways seem very unnatural to me. But she seems like a really nice person and one who cares about other actors.

How are we 4 pages in without mentioning Natalie Portman? Terrible in everything.

Ugh. I really dislike Nicole Kidman's acting. Her American accent always seems to be a bit of a whisper and I find myself staring at her face versus losing myself in her character performance.

Keanu.

I did say Keanu, but he is good in Matrix. Probably bcs that role is so weird anyway and it is a about living inside a Matrix!

I have no idea if she's really a good person but she does seem to be and I've enjoyed most of her roles. I think she's a good actress even if not in the Meryl Streep category.

I like that she seems to be aging naturally and has her natural teeth!

I think a lot of pretty people who are a bit bubbly have coasted through Hollywood by essentially playing themselves.

Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, and even Reese Witherspoon are pretty actresses with good stage presence but no real range. They all have comedic timing, but that’s not acting.

Great actors have a wide range and make you forget about their celebrity.

Meryl Streep is the obvious example of a talented actress.

I think Nicole Kidman thinks she’s a great actress simply based on the volume of roles and commercial success, but I think she has a limited range largely driven by emotion. She can play happy Nicole, sad Nicole, and confident Nicole. She doesn’t really play characters.

How can you like them as people if you don’t actually know them?

She is a really lovely person and actually an introvert it seems. At least from my observation serving her and family and friends many many times at a favorite Nashville place during my undergrad and grad school years. And she and her husband really do seem to have met their soulmates.

Haha yes! I still love most of his movies- especially if he doesn't have to act too much.

I just watched Michael Clayton (again!) and thought he was wonderful in it, but I do feel like he just plays himself. He's the same guy in Oceans Eleven, Up in the Air and The Descendants, but I love all of those movies.

I feel the same way about Joe Pesci, who I adore.

But in life not just acting, people aren't always nice and talented. Sometimes those who are awesome at their jobs are terrible people but great kind lovely people are completely incompetent professionally. Same can be said for any profession.

You don't ever judge someone by what they are or do, you really just figure out if you like them everything follows from there. Many people who shouldn't get credit do because of it and many who should get more credit don't because of it.

Hey hey, let's have none of that here. We're not being analytical in this thread. We're just giving gut instincts and being shallow. Join us, won't you?
