That would be preferable. In the meantime…let the kids play. |

| There are school districts which have the rule that 8th graders cannot make the team in programs which cut players in tryouts. Is that a good rule? |
My DD played up. She was always welcomed by the players that made the team because she was better than the weaker player she replaced. So don’t worry about how the HS parent feel. |
Really? There was an 8th grade on JV with one if my kids and that child was ostracized. No one wanted an 8th grader on the team. |
I can’t speak about the player’s skill level or the school she’s at. My DD held her own with the older players and was never ostracized. This was in lacrosse. |
| Oh well lacrosse is usually no-cut anyway right? |
Right. Yorktown can barely field their JV team. |
Yes even rec players make it. |
Karma's a B. |

In Arlington it has always been allowed since the middle schools were formerly 7-9th grade junior high schools with full sports offerings, including football. During the transition to the middle school format, for the sports that could not be hosted at the middle schools (like football) 8th graders could play for their future high school teams. |
No, this is a VHSL rule. |
| Its not a vhsl rule, individual school systems can allow 8th or not. |
You misunderstand, VHSL sets the rule that allows this. And then yes, individual school systems can choose to do it or not. But it’s not because Arlington used to be a seven through nine for MS. The genesis for the rule is that in the past, there weren’t enough high school players to make a whole team. This is no longer the case in Arlington and therefore a parent should be writing to the school board. |
