Don’t FCPS elementary schools have regular early-release Mondays?

I just compared calendars but who knows maybe

I’m wondering when the last day of school will be with all these snow days! I hope my kids school uses this Bishop’s holiday as the snow day from this Wednesday if it can be used to reduce the length of the school year.

DC is at BI and they only had 3 snow days built in so they do virtual school for any additional snow days, like they did on Wednesday. I thought that was a diocese-wide policy but it sounds like it's not.

I'm fine with the Bishop's Holiday, goodness knows they get enough assignments that their "extra" day off (that isn't really extra) will be spent studying for something anyway.

I think it’s cute and fun. I’m very happy with the academics and curriculum at our diocese school.

And I love how the kids get excited by Bishop Burbidge's visits. It is genuine as they all really like him and he relates to them so well. If the "worst" thing my high schooler gets is one less day of academic study a school year in exchange for the wholesome fun of celebrating a kind, holy and yes, fun Bishop then I am all in.

Not if the eagles lost. How dumb.

When my kids was in HS, they'd get the Monday after spring break or another day. Every year there's a "bishop's holiday"

It's a "surprise" day that happens every single year.

The administrators have the authority to use the holiday as they see fit.

The hierarchy of authority is that the pastor has more power than the principal, and the pastor reports to the Bishop.

When kids have finals and AP exams, they are in school for very little time (in HS).

The Bishop has a degrees in education and does spend a lot of time at school events. The kids look up to him.

It can be tough. Most schools have extended day though so kids can stay at school until you can pick them up.

Not joking.

Between that and all the snow days, not to mention the assemblies, the parties, mass sometimes 2x a week, etc etc, perhaps they’ll find time for ACADEMICS one of these days! Maybe?

(Standing by for all the excuses and apologists to post snarky remarks abut why I should just leave the school (rather than addressing the substantive issue))….

The bishop is such a joke

How so?

And why are you still at a school you hate with people you don’t respect?
