So, what say you dcum world, what's gone up since Feb 2025? What do you think will go up because of the tariffs?

1. Even if we buy local, growing seasons for these are very short (strawberries, for example), and have an extremely short life after harvest. By the time they are packed and loaded in to trucks they are beginning to rot. People are not used to only eating a fruit or a veg in the growing season. It’s a very different way of eating.
2. Who will pick, pack, and transport? Most if not all farms employ seasonal workers who are immigrants. They may be afraid to be in an open field or even enter the USA now. It’s very hard work, so teens and young adults won’t want to do it, and elderly can’t hack it. It may end up rotting in field.
3. Without stable produce, stores will have to shift. The lean months of winter with only cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and beets will get old.

Certainly, coffee has increased. Bell peppers, cucumbers, avocados have increased.
Most fruit and veg will go up. It’s a shame, because I imagine they aim to cut food stamps and so it will be very difficult to feed people a healthy diet. Ultra processed foods can be manufactured cheaply and corn still subsidized. Make America fat and unhealthy

Winter vegetables include potatoes and squash.

Had bought so much coffee earlier in the year but for some reason already getting low, thought it would have lasted until at least the fall when hopefully*something* not sure what will change and some geniu will talk sense into this Orange.

I’ve had gardens before and it never really pencils out for us. We live in the Pacific NW on a city lot. The cost of watering through summer is just way too expensive. However we do a local CSA from June-October and it’s fabulous, seasonal and supports a local farm. More costly than the cheapest grocery store produce but cheaper than the farmers market or growing myself.

The drama is pretty funny. How do you think these things happened a couple of decades ago? How do you think produce is picked in Europe? Do they send all of the Syrians out to the fields?
