2025 buy nothing/less

We are eating out less, which is big for us.

But the biggest thing has been that when I lost my wallet, a while back, and got new credit cards with new numbers, I never put the one with the new number on Amazon. So I haven’t bought anything on Amazon for quite some time, and I’m so happy about that that I’m not going to put one of the new credit cards on there. Amazon is mostly all junk anyway. If I need something, I’ll just use my DH’s account.

This may not be an option for you, but even more frugal would be a bar of Dove soap.

Pair bath soap with a net bag and you’ll have as much suds as body wash.

Get the bag and not a loofah.

Living in a well-loved home with functional furniture and decorated with family photos and children’s artwork worked well when I grew up. Not wanting more decorative “stuff” this year.

Yes. You have to thumbs down/unfollow/show less all of those types of posts. Do that for few weeks and it will mostly go away and you can just touch it up here and there. Remember you are the product in those cases.

Once you get going on decluttering, it’s pretty rewarding to see the results in certain area and it’s very motivating to not want to buy more things. I also follow a lot of people on YouTube who support this and believe similarly and it’s very motivating. I think I’m about halfway done decluttering and aim to finish by the end of summer. It has been proven study after study that more stuff does NOT make people happy, beyond their actual needs.

I am not opposed to having nice things or replacing things that get worn out/used up. But I don’t need 20 sweaters. I’m down to my 10 favorites and even that I should cull further. And I don’t need to buy more. Just for example.

I'm doing this too. And I am repairing things I want to keep. For instance, getting some pants taken in, getting a coat's lining repaired that I want to keep, fixing jewelry I want to wear and then donating everything I don't want anymore. Got rid of most of my holiday decorations and ay household thing I don't like or use anymore. Not saving things for what if or maybe. I feel overwhelmed by what is in my cupboards and getting rid of excess feels great. I'm doing it slowly but making progress. I will continue this year.

Great job PP! I am the other poster doing this. It actually feels so good and is rewarding.

Which YouTubers are you following? My 2024 goal was to declutter the house, I got halfway through by year end, which is a miracle. In autumn 2024, I had 4 sofas in the house (2 old and 2 new). I was so depressed to have to walk around them. It was the kick I needed to finally working on my 2024 goal LOL Now I only have the 2nd floor to go, I feel motivated.

Hear hear. I used to tell DH that I go on vacation to get away from our stuff. My goal is to be able to see the entire floor in the house, and be able to reach out and get to all the stuff we need/care. The rest has to go, which including 95% of my cloths and shoes.

Not buying one thing while Republicans in office except necessary items. Food and gas.

I will not help the cult of stupids

Given I am the 1 percent and an Alumni-of a large public university I have also removed tens of millions of my $ that used to go to scholarships. No way in hell is my money paying for a crap

I did it in Jan 2024. I liked it so much that I extended to Feb 2024, and was pretty judicious about buying stuff till the holidays LOL I was surprised at how much money I saved.

PP here. I think teaching styles are very personal and you have to find someone that speaks to you but my favorite is The Minimal Mom. She has a way of explaining it that just makes sense to me and sticks with me. She is more minimalist than I even want to be, but she isn’t preachy or judgy at all and still gives me the right way to think about things. She does have a business but she also isn’t constantly promoting it either.

I found Rita Wilkins on youtube. She's an older lady with an old-fashioned presentation style who is very encouraging to those in their decluttering journey.

It IS Amazing to be on vacation and staying in a neat, uncluttered hotel room!

It also helps you realize how little you really need.

Try telling the wife to shop nothing…women do be shoppin’

Lots of women are the frugal ones in the family, or both partners are frugal. I’m a woman and I’m the family declutter. My DH is not a shopper, but he has a hard time getting of stuff even if we haven’t used it in a very long time. He still has his Boy Scout camping gear. I’ve known him 25 years and he’s never gone camping during that time.

I had just been doing it but now I'm going to make it intentional.

Yes, restaurants have definitely gone downhill since 2019. The prices have gone way up and quality has declined dramatically. Tipping has also become irritating to me because people expect tips for everything now and this entitlement is beyond ridiculous. I have cut back on tipping substantially and any place that explicitly requests a tip will get $0 tip for their rude behavior.
