Given the ages of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Trump and Biden, that average is going to change drastically in the next 5-20 years. |
The papers originally said 8 days from date of death to burial, which would have put the funeral on about 1/6. I’m guessing that since Congress is meeting to certify the election on 1/6, they intentionally pushed the funeral out so that he is not lying in state or having his funeral 1/6. They don’t want random people trooping through the Capital 1/6 to see him lying in state that day. It’s been declared a national security zone and they re bring in national guard troops from outside DC to certify the electoral count. So, they also won’t have the manpower to secure the Capital and a state funeral. Zero chance they are okay with thousands of extra people in the secured area in the Capital 1/6 (thanks MAGA!). Which would mean lying in state 1/7 and 1/8 and funeral 1/9. |
And I think they are. Because they always have and Biden is a traditionalist. No way he’d change protocol in a way that looks like Carter is being honored less than every former POTIs. Mark this page. I guess we’ll see. |
There’s no way January 6th would be seriously considered. |
Keeping people at home makes sense for the reasons you describe. However, my “knickers” aren’t in a “twist.” (Such a weird leap on your part.) But between the ridiculous shutdown nonsense and now this urgent need to use up whatever leave Trump is going to yank away from us before eliminating jobs, plus the urgency to finish certain things before 1/20, there are things I want to get done in my job. Good for you for going to mass and patting yourself on the back for it. |
1. The point is some people will use the day to honor Carter 2. You deadlines seem like a you problem. 3. people aren’t out right now because they are afraid Trump will yank away leave. That’s benefit that has already been earned— he can’t. People aren’t a.ways out this time of year because of use or lose. |
Then it sounds like OP needs to sign on and get that sweet, sweet improvement in all quarters. No? |
Is this day of mourning off for all Federal employees, or just the ones that normally go into the office in DC? |
Whatever, I’ve seen the GS scale and I know plenty of two fed families with vacation homes, no student loans, annual trips to exotic locations. You make bank and your benefits are great. I’m so tired of the woe is me BS we get from Feds here. You all make a good salary, great benefits, basically unlimited annual leave, tons of days off, they pay off your loans, and you can’t get fired. Not bad. |
Not everyone is a minority, a veteran, or wants to lie about being disabled. I hope you’re handling your “depression” well this holiday season. |
So many defensive Feds on this thread. LOL just admit you have a sweet deal, no biggie, friends. |
???? The only defensiveness I see is the bitter contractor mad that other people may or may not have a day off |
funeral is Jan 9 in DC. |
This is on your employer. Contractors can pay their staff on closed days and many do. You work for a cheapskate. |
Bitterness is not a good look. Don’t blame others for your own poor decisions. |
