In praise of Olive Garden and Hampton Inn; praise YOUR lowbrow favorites!

We stayed in an Embassy Suites last year. The cook brought out Rice Krispie treats for my kids and then chatted for a while about his life, working there, etc. Very nice.

The Ritz Carlton is my lowbrow guilty pleasure.

Hampton Inn is a family favorite - free breakfast, clean rooms, and a pool! We always seek them out.

I prefer Bob Evans or Denny's when on the road. In my mind, a smidgen better than the iHOP my kids always beg for and I'm always disappointed in. I jus can't bring myself to stop at a Burger King, McDonalds, etc. If there's a Waffel House though, we're all in.

I had no idea these things were considered lowbrow. Hampton Inn and Ann Taylor? This thread shows how out of touch people are.

Anonymous wrote:McDonald's is still one of my favorites. I go hard on a 10-piece chicken nugget meal with a crispy diet Coke.

Also, there's a chain restaurant called Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen that's in a few WV cities where I have relatives. It is so good for a chain restaurant! I love it and make sure to visit each time I'm there.

And on top of that, I secretly love stopping at a Cracker Barrel during a road trip. The bathrooms are always so clean and I love browsing all the crazy knickknacks that are for sale. Did I need a platter that told me to have a Holly Dolly Christmas? No, but did I buy it this past weekend? Yes!

OP here. I’ve been to Cheddar’s a few times on our road trips! It is pretty darn good!

Thanks to everyone who is participating and appreciating this lil’ thread. It’s a nice change of pace!

We have stayed at many hotels in the city where my daughter attends college and have decided our favorite is Hampton Inn. It’s clean, free parking, and the price can’t be beat. Other hotels are double the price plus parking and not any more comfortable.

Also can’t beat $1 iced coffee any size at McDonald’s in the morning. And egg McMuffin LOL

Captain D’s (it’s been a long time)
Taco Bell
Olive Garden soup, salad, breadsticks
Bojangles
McDonald’s(a good filet o’ fish is sublime)
Little Caesars (sometimes you just want some $8 pizzas)

I used to love Captain D’s when I was a kid! And MCL Cafeteria.

Anyone who reads Beauty and Fashion knows that Ann Taylor is scorned on DCUM. All of this is relative to DCUM. Do you not get that? Of course it’s out of touch. IT IS DCUM.

McDonald's coffee is the best. I'd take it over Starbucks any day. And you can't beat McDonald's fries--worth every calorie.

I buy a good portion of my wardrobe from Kohl's. It's cheap and decent for staples. May not be the best quality but for the price, I don't care. High quality clothing is hard to find anywhere.

I buy almost all my clothes from the tables at Costco.

Wendy's junior bacon cheese burger is amazing.

I can do it better. I prefer the Ann Taylor outlet! Larger store with better prices in a giant outlet mall with a Legoland and a Rainforest Cafe!

Olive Garden food is terrible though. I don’t understand how they are still in business.

yep, was going to say that. You can do worse than an egg McMuffin. I try not to think about the ethical issues I have with them though. Same for Wendy’s…I like their chili. If I need a fast food lunch or dinner, it’s my preference. Maybe add a baked potato. When I make chili at home, I look up the Wendy’s kopycat recipe.
