JMU should never be compared to VT.

Why? For non-STEM, JMU might be the better option for many.

Better option how? VT has much more respect in the D.C. metro area/VA than JMU. For any major.

Nope. I'm from here.
It's
Tier 1: uva and wm
Tier 2: jmu and vt
Tier 3: gmu, vcu, cnu etc

Back at you, 35 years as an adult in DC proper but from out West originally.

JMU is not on the VT level, in prestige, peer institution reputation or caliber of research and faculty. Not sure what you are smoking.

The stats from last year show UVA and W&M as neck and neck, followed by VT then JMU, then GMU and UMW, VCU/CNU/ODU...

JMU is a crapshoot. My public HS 3.9/1350 SAT kid got denied there but got into UW and Michigan. I actually called the admissions office thinking it was an error as my DD has a very common name (ie Jenn Smith). Nope, they meant to tell her no.

30 years ago, JMU had a 37 percent acceptance rate

This. Engineering is a harder admit than humanities at multiple VA publics.

Isn't this true everywhere?

What?! You have some of the best state options in the country, OP?!! Practice gratitude.

Is GMU really at the bottom of the tiers? Sorry, I may have FCPS blinders on, so just curious.
