According to my kid at Cornell, deceased may have changed name recently and was distressed about election results given trans identity.

What a fking shame. We should stop freaking out and tell kids that the trump presidency means almost nothing in the long arc of their lives.

+1 Parents should help set reasonable expectations and reactions.

When he won in 2016, parents were freaking out and taking their kids down with them. Our oldest was 8 at the time and her friends were anxious wrecks. One parent even told her 8 year old adopted kid that she would do her best to protect her from the bad people who want to rip her away from her family.

Trans is a mental health issue. It's sad that this person didn't get help. There's a lot going on if the person killed themselves over election results.

Transgenderism isn’t a mental health issue. Body dysphoria is.

Tomato tomahto. Just get them some help.

Yep. We are extremely anti Trump but this is still what we told our teens (and believe ourselves for the most part.) The court is the worst part. An entire generation of conservative judges. Sigh. But living in NY it shouldn’t be an issue.

The court is fine. Stop acting like it has been any more politicized than it was under Earl Warren.

Cornell students are grappling with a series of tragedies that have left the campus shaken. In the past week, Winter Knutson ’27 was found dead in Fall Creek Gorge, a student was hospitalized after falling in the same area, a report of drugging and sexual assault at the Chi Phi house led to the fraternity’s suspension and a Cornell custodian was charged with second-degree murder in an Ithaca homicide.

Vice President for Student and Campus Life Ryan Lombardi sent an email statement to the Cornell community on Monday highlighting resources for students and encouraging them to “lean on each other and show support, empathy and care to each other.” But many found the University’s response disappointing.

Why parents and kids are seeking out Greek life and rush--as this is a problem at all 'greek heavy' schools--including the big southern ones too--is BEYOND me. We purposely picked schools where Greek wasn't the predominant form of socialization.

A lot of schools have Greek life. It’s not that easy to avoid.

Sorry you didn't get a bid.

Other schools have just as much suicide but they don’t get press because they are done in less public, less dramatic ways like with pills. Not to be crass, but some of those other suicides would probably have happened off of a bridge if they had them at those schools.
