It sure sounds like VDoEd is expecting more from schools. As a parent and taxpayer, that is what I want to see - after 2-3 decades of increasingly watered down expectations across Virginia.

I went ahead and looked at the APS numbers and, by contrast, 14 would be Distinguished, 16 would be On Track, 3 would be Off Track, and 2 would be Needs Intensive Improvement. So it seems like the Arlington parents shouldn’t be so worried about this. |
It's an unfunded mandate. More requirements but no money for localities so they can meet it. It's just more Youngkin antics trying to make schools look bad. Remember these are the same people behind the infamous teacher tip line. |
Very telling. |
Public Schools always have been locally funded. These standards might just get us back to the academic standing where APS was 20 years ago. |
Yes, sounds like she’s not the APE puppet everyone screams she is |
No, quite a bit of funding comes from the state. |
From the data link it looks like the schools very closely reflect SES status primarily? How do you all read distinguished vs. off track from the numbers? Is there a legend I did not see, or on another site? |
The relevant info is here: https://www.doe.virginia.gov/state-board-data-funding/accreditation-accountability/school-performance-and-support-framework?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2E7WBbBDnCKaLsTcYm_d57CEH1WBe22BPrRGugde9ztvpiIX6uTtvdX5M_aem_hYBl7q2MnEZ_tW5KCYDS3Q Under the Framework Overview link, they have the broad guidelines. Distinguished is 90 and above, On Track is 80-90, Off Track is 65-80, Needs Intensive Support is below 65. Schools also get bumped down a level if they have been identified under federal standards for needing targeted support (the TSI/ATSI in the data file). |
Thank you, that’s what I needed! |
