14U Girls Volleyball in DMV - Tryouts & Club Teams

DD has offers from DMV and Platform. Not “top tier” but it’s her first year playing after transitioning away from another sport. Any feedback on either re:coaching, development? I’ve read enough of the back and forth about the price tag of DMV and it’s something we’re willing to pay if the level of coaching is better than Platform

Definitely Platform: I am really surprised that you hesitate. Platform is a mid- to low-tier club with better record than DMV. Last year their Purple team had a better record (4301) than their Black team (5066), while DMV was 5980. As a reference, the Platform White team was pretty close at 6232. But as in any commercial, past performance is not indicative of future success. I am sure DMV will still take your money if you want to give it to them.

If I remember correctly, very few kids go all the way from 14s to 18s at VAE, so they’re always looking for college potential and their top players generally end up at Metro or Paramount in later years (with a few exceptions)

23-24 VAE 17U ranked much better than Metro 17T in USAV GJNC nationals.Metro had so many talents buy very bad ranking. Coaching in VAE 17 seems better.

According to the AES power rankings, Metro 17T was 80 in the nation (1 in CHRVA), and VAE was 138 in the nation (2 in CHRVA). Anyone can draw some conclusions from data and you are free to conclude that coaching in VAE is better. Whatever floats your boat, dude.

On the big stage at 2024 GJNC 17U nationals,
VAE 17T : 13th out of 48 national teams,
Metro 17T: 33th out of 48 national teams.
Even Metro director gave up this 17T team( she will not coach 18T this season), why so difficult for you to acknowledge it dude?

She didn't "give up" on the current 18T team, they had to reshuffle coaching staffs because the AU head coach isn't allowed to coach a girl who lives more than 50 miles from AU and because a couple other coaches needed to take a step back for personal reasons. But sure, whatever fits your "narrative."

DD received an offer to Platform’s white team last night. Does anyone know if there’s movement between teams? She was hoping for purple

There might be some movement at Platform because the top players are trying out for other clubs and will take their time to commit. You might move up to purple if you accept the offer for the white team, but you won't know until after 10 pm or even tomorrow, when it becomes clear which players return and which players move on. Platform has another tryout tonight, where they will try to get a few more of those players who didn't make MVSA and Moco. It will depend on whether they find a better player for the position your DD plays.

Or because the 17s coaches cursed at the kids this season, and she's stepping in to save the day. Also, the 17s are their most talented team, so figures she'd want to coach that team.

Is there lots of movement tonight?

I am not privy to that information, but I can share my experience. Last year we moved up from purple to black because another player rejected the Platform offer. It is not clear whether we were the first in line or there were other players who refused the offer before we got it. I don't remember clearly when we got the offer, but it was after midnight, or maybe in the morning.

I wanted to be useful and I looked up my email. Everything settled by noon the next day.

We got an offer this year to White and then DD got moved up to Purple before we even accepted! Practice starts tonight, let's hope she likes it!

Congratulations! Looks like we will not cross paths - you practice M and W, we practice T and Th.

How did your DD like the practice? We always felt that the Platform practices were a bit crowded. Three teams on two courts is quite busy, but wait until one practice gets cancelled and the teams get distributed between among the remaining practices. I don't like to remember those days with 4 teams on two courts.
