Academy of the Holy Cross (Kensington) for HS

My daughter was on a soccer team with mostly HC players besides the antisemitism and racist crap their college acceptances were basically just small religious private or schools like York in pa. If you are paying for private school you should get more for your money.

And now these parents are full on maga idiots I have zero respect for anyone sending a child there .

While I realize not all parents are Maga I’m appalled at the people I see. Too many to not be a thing.

Yes this is factual my FB feed can attest to this fact.

This strange PP troll comes onto every AHC thread and posts about her daughter on a soccer team with AHC kids and her Facebook feed and spreads this nonsense. It is bizarre.

We are liberal as they come and send our daughter there. We have not experienced any parents spreading MAGA nonsense.

I searched Google and the only document I could find was a school profile from 2015-16, where there were only 2-3 at most that matriculated to a top 20 school (the number isn't clear because the list covers 3 years). During this period, it was much easier to get into these schools, so I don't imagine it is any better today. The profile also shared the SAT/ACT scores, which are much much lower than other Catholic all girls schools. For example, VISI and SR have an average ACT of 31 vs. 25 for AHC.

I highly recommend that if your daughter is open to public school to consider that if academics is her priority. Five percent of students from Bethesda area MCPS high schools matriculate to top 20 schools. The percentage is much lower for AHC.

Why do you care so much about where ahc girls go to college? And iirc the last few years it has had girls go to ivies, notre dame, and the service academies. It’s a small school. Theres like 90 girls in each graduating class, so 5% is 4-5 kids.

I care because I want my daughter to be surrounded by high achieving and smart students. I recall an occassional admit to a top 20 from AHC. Five percent? Perhaps. But know that schools like VISI and SR are closer to 20%. They also have around 100 students per graduating class...VISI may have a few more.

SR and Visi don’t have 20% of their graduating seniors going to top 20. This information is easy to find on Instagram. Not everyone posts but in ‘24, AHC had 2 in top 20 and SR had 3. Your information is totally incorrect which isn’t surprising given you are posting a 10 year old school profile.

It varies year to year. Last year it was closer to 15%. The year before it was about 20%. Either way, it is significantly higher than AHC.

Show me a more recent matriculation list. They are hiding information.

I’m not doing your homework for you lazybones. Why don’t you produce a list showing us SR or Visi’s 20% to Top 20?

Very easy to find on their websites. AHC has no matriculations on their website, unless I am missing something.

What you are missing is that you claimed 20% of SR goes to Top 20. Yet you can’t support that statement because it isn’t true. So I’ll wait why you try and am sure you will just post some incoherent reply like you’ve been doing so far.

My daughter currently attends AHC. She tells me she has not seen people smoking week or vaping in the bathrooms. She has friends from various ethnic and racial backgrounds. She was bullied in middle school but has found nice friends at AHC. I have been happy with the engagement of her teachers and her experience there. When I have volunteered at the school, I have always felt welcomed by the other parents (which was not always the case at our elementary school).

DD scored at the 99%tile on the HSPT and was a straight A student at a local Catholic primary school. She had her pick of schools and scholarship offers. She chose AHC over Visi, SR and SJC, because she felt most comfortable there after shadowing at the various schools. I do not like the braggy culture on here, but I am putting this out there, because I am tired of the PPs who incessantly put this school down.

Some people responding to this post are really speaking out of turn or maybe are high schoolers trolling.

NP. Actually, by my calculations, 15% of SR are attending top 25 in Class of '24. In Class of '23, it was 20%. I like using the T25 list because it provides more options and gives a better picture. The document on the SR website is not accurate. Lots of omissions! The Instagram is accurate according to my daughter. https://www.instagram.com/srseniors24/ And this website age confirms the accuracy. https://www.stoneridgeschool.org/magazine/post-page/~board/publications-board/post/congrats-class-of-2023?issue_id=16

At VISI, 19% matriculated to T25 in the Class of 24. The Insta is here. https://www.instagram.com/visicollegedecisions2024/

As for AHC, I couldn't find much information either. I do see they have an Instagram page, but it doesn't seem complete. The school doesn't post any information from what I could observe. It appears that based on the Instagram page, two girls matriculated to T25 schools out of 66 who posted, which is about 3%. I know their class is bigger than that and many missing, but clearly not in the same ballpark as VISI and SR. https://www.instagram.com/ahc_seniors24/

DP. Comparisons of college matriculations is meaningless unless you not only know the acceptances, but also where the students applied. Wealth is a major factor when it comes to college admissions and impacts where students apply as well as acceptance rates.

Even if we change from top 20 to top 25, SR is more like 11% for Top 20. Looking at past 3 years, it’s also around 11%.

SR is a great school but have to wonder why so many of you are coming here to insult AHC. Makes me wonder about your parent population.

Our daughter is a recent alumna ('22). We had a wonderful experience with the staff and the administration (which has since changed). There are some seriously misinformed people on this thread, if not outright liars.

Well I am a SR alumnae myself considering AHC for DD. It seems like a lovely school.

DD and I attended Holy Cross Fall Athletic Night this evening. It was a very nice and very well organized event (note: no other school allows for prospective students to meet with every coach in every sport prior to submitting an application). DD had a chance to speak with the coaches and the students who participate in various sports she is interested in. Everyone was super nice and welcoming, and they provided lots of useful info not only about the sport/s but also about academics and the school in general. We left after 2 hours and DD chatted non stop on the way back home about how she knows she would find her people at Holy Cross if she were to apply and be admitted.

Good luck with that!

We were there as well! I was impressed and DD felt "at home" (her words). This event makes our application decisions a lot easier.

Yep - our DD loved it. Said girls were nice, fun, and accepting.

AHC college destinations are on par with a middling public school. Unless you go there for a Catholic education, you are better off sending them to your local public school.
