every 5 yr old male should play lax and every female should row - if you want guaranteed T20 admission. Both are easy sports to master - any kid can become ivy caliber with enough private lessons and coaching

Rotc is def a hook

is this true? any T20s with ROTC?

The hook is in obtaining a 4-year full tuition ROTC scholarship. That informs the school that you will do ROTC for 4 years versus dropping it after one semester. 4-year scholarship also means you are a "full pay" student. Most top 20s have students enrolled in ROTC either right on campus or at a nearby univeristy campus. If on campus the university wants to make sure they have ROTC students in the program to keep it going, just like they want to make sure there are enough soccer players to field a team. Oh and I hope your kid enjoys the 4-8 year post graduation service commitment!

Yeah. Would have been great to have tuition paid by ROTC- instead we full pay because my kid had zero desire to do ROTC.

Geographic diversity is a big one. The irony is those who benefit from that the most rail against DEI and don’t comprehend that it’s the reason they got in. They take credit for their “passion” or “soft skills”. Never crossed their mind that they were a DEI admit.

I am not so sure this is true for LAX now. We aren't in DC, maybe that is why, but our area is nationally ranked and #1 in the south and a few kids go for college a year but certainly not everyone and not top 20. Maybe 20 years ago but not now. So many kids play..

NP. In our area, most of the LAX team are football players keeping in shape off season. My 5'8" kid broke an arm and a leg playing LAX and quit after sophomore year.

I dropped my 4-year ROTC scholarship after 13 months and walked away. Typically, there is no obligation to serve unless one completes 2 years plus summer of 2nd year, at least with AFROTC.

Schools know this. I do not think ROTC is a hook at most colleges.

Ivy schools don’t get many ROTC applications and they need to fill the slots. It’s absolutely a hook.
