Australia- realistic budget

Remember to budget another $2k on your trip for vegemite sandwiches.

I am the OP. You can’t trick me on the vegemite

Very strange to quote business class tickets for a family of 5 that is hoping not to spend more than a total of $30,000.

Have any dcum-ers rented a campervan for Australia touring?

I have a really dumb question on AUS/NZ travel. Suppose you fly from AUS to US, say Sydney to LA. It's an overnight flight and you will cross the International Date Line.
Does this mean that you depart from Sydney Friday afternoon and arrive on LA on Friday morning?
Anonymous
Yes. You'll arrive a few hours earlier on the same day.

And the trip TO Australia you leave DC late afternoon say Friday arrive LAX or SFO at night, transfer to a later night flight to SYD/MEL that leaves around 10 PM, and arrive around 9 AM Sunday morning.

No. But depends how much area you want to cover and how much time you have. A lot of the most visited places are very far part.

We went to Aus and NZ this summer (their winter). Weather was amazing and mild even in NZ South Island. Loved both, but especially AUS. Beautiful country and yummy food.

Can you please share your itinerary and how many days you had?

I have friends who went for a month. They travel like this -- months at a time -- each year.

Shier reaction to AUS? "That was expensive!"

I would rather travel around Canada.

My European friends did this. They had a year of paid maternity/paternity leave. They went for 3 months. Took their newborn and their 3 year old.
