Many of the new families in East Bethesda are two-income.
Many have also built up a fair amount of equity from places like Silver Spring and Kensington, and are moving "up" or at least over, mainly for the better schools. |
I'm sorry 9/27 00:21 poster but we've been looking in East Bethesda and other close in MD neighborhood for awhile - and you cannot get a nice renovation for a lot less than 900K, that just isn't true. Generally speaking, and of course there are exceptions so don't slam me, but not too many, there are houses with 3 BR houses in the 600-800K range and then if you want more space (say you are looking to move out of the AU neighborhood where you have 3 BR but your family is growing and you need a little more space, like 4 BR and a study, so you decide to look in MD as the kids are getting older and might need to think about private school if you stayed in AU Park) then the price does indeed jump to 1.5 mill. This is our situation. Also, I think that the folks in AU park often have children in elementary school and look to move if they can't afford private for kids heading to middle school. For that reason, the private school funding doesn't impact every family living in the more affordable AU Park area. |
The irony is that East Bethesda feels more urban (in a good way) than AU Park, though technically the latter is in the city and the former is not. |
We just moved into the neighborhood. We first learned of the neighborhood through DCUM. Yesterday, we attended a neighborhood "Pancake Breakfast." Basically, a half dozen neighborhood guys cook pancakes for all comers. Loved the pancakes. Love the neighborhood. Thanks DCUM! |
Does anyone know who these guys are that sponsored the breakfast? |
To the 11:17 poster, welcome to the neighborhood!!! We've been here for a year and we LOVE it! How old are your kids and what street do you live on? We live on Highland. Don't miss the Halloween Parade next Sunday! |
Thanks for the welcome. Funny that even in this virtual world it is such a small world. Our DCs are 5 and 7. What about yours? We spend a huge amount of time at the park, we've probably already crossed paths! By the way, are your kids at Bethesda Elementary? We'll be going there next year. Would love to hear some feedback. |
Our kids are not school aged yet. We usually go out to the park on weekends now that it gets dark so early. Glad you are enjoying the neighborhood! Hope your kids have a smooth school transition! |
I heard this neighborhood had a halloween parade. Was there also door-to-door trick or treating, or is the parade and celebration supposed to be in lieu of this? |
Is the entire neighborhood truly "within walking distance" of the Metro? Or only certain portions, in which case, which portions would they be? |
Most houses in the East Bethesda are a 5-20 minute walk ot the Bethesda or NIH metro. |
A few more were recently added this past month. |
When is the Fourth of July neighborhood picnic this year? |
To the poster seeking good sledding in Bethesda - here's the neighborhood referenced in the reply, around which is Lynnbrook Park, which has great sledding. |
We are looking at a house on Highland Avenue. Is that in this neighborhood? |
