NYT best book of the 21st century

No Namesake? Or did I miss it?

Embarrassingly, I’ve only read 6 of the 100. I had totally forgotten cavalier and klay—that was another lifetime for me! But very good.

I really didn’t care for The Corrections and would not have put it on the list. And I know everyone loves Bel Canto but it just did not stick with me. Her writing is beautiful but somehow the characters or stories just don’t stay in my mind and I have trouble remembering them.

There’s a few on here I’ve been meaning to read.

I’m a little surprised nothing by Gary Shteingart — feel like he’s a critic’s darling and popular with other writers.

I don't think any science fiction book made the list but The Three Body Problem would have been a good pick.

I've read 41 from that list. I think it's fun to look through, but I don't love the method they picked for creating the list. And I am one who hated My Brilliant Friend. I also hated The Corrections, but I loved the rest of the top ten (the only one I hadn't read was 2666).

I think they should have separated fiction from non-fiction. A lot of important books were left out.

Khaled Hosseini deserves to be on the list, either for The Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns.

What is Station 11 and Tomorrows are doing on this list? Pachinko is way too high.

I wouldn't go as far as phenomenal, but I liked it a lot too. Have you read Young Mungo? I've had it on my list to read for a while but can't seem to commit as it just seems to similar to Shuggie Bain to me. Would love to hear your thoughts if you've read it.

A Brilliant Friend as #1 made me want to throw my laptop across the room. So overrated.

Any Italians here? I heard that the Neapolitan quartet books are much better in English. Curious to hear it that’s true.

Agreed. Most of the other books mentioned in this thread are much more deserving.

The inclusion of Life After Life . . . Yikes

OMG, I flat out loved it. It's one I've reread over and over.

Disagree about Pachinko, but when I saw Station Eleven on the list I said “What?!” out loud.
