There are private schools that don’t cost that much. |
This sounds like a lot, a quarter. But given that most private school class depending on level are usually no bigger than 200 (at the HS level) and often much less(think 70) we aren’t talking huge numbers. |

The problem, OP, is that each situation is unique.
I worked in public and hated it. I answered to inept administrators and I was required to teach a terrible curriculum. I sent my own kids to private because I didn’t like what I saw in our own district. That private was amazing, and I ultimately decided to teach there. But someone else can have the exact opposite experience, determining that private didn’t work for them and then finding great value in the public schools. Teachers are just like everyone else. They are going to do what’s best for their own families. For some of us, that’s private. For some, that’s public. |

I’ve been an MCPS teacher for 12 years. My kid is at a private school. The constantly changing curriculum, poor consequences for significant behavior, lack of teacher time and agency to differentiate, and abhorrent behind the scenes nonsense drove our decision.
We have to put in a lot of volunteer time and pad with family financial support, but for us it’s worth it |
| I teach at a Title I school and got COSAs for all three of my kids to attend. Couldn't be happier with how it's worked out for our family. The oldest is going into 8th grade and goes to an out of boundary MS for a special ed program. Our rising 5th grader will apply for magnets but we're fine with returning to our home school for MS. |
Most teachers make $80-120K so if their spouse makes a similar amount or more with aid or a catholic school they are fine. |
| I’m a single parent teacher whose kid goes to Catholic school. It’s doable. It is my priority (other than rent, food, etc) so it isn’t difficult. |
It does t cost $50k for a public school teacher unless they have a high earning spouse. MCPS teachers qualify for financial aid. |
| At the elementary where I work, 7 teachers have kids old enough to go to school, and 6 of them go to MCPS. One goes to Catholic. |
You get what you pay for... |
My siblings kids went to catholic. They were always complaining about the indoctrination. |
| The admins at my MS all send their kids to private. As a public school teacher, I have never thought that was a great look. |
Which Middle school? |
Is this Pyle? |
| We send our 2 to private. We have scholarships do pay less than $28k for both. Luckily, husband is a higher earner than my salary. Could not do it if we were both in my salary range. |
