You can't compare a college-level assignment to a HS assignment - even if it's an AP course! (I taught AP, btw. So I'm speaking from experience.) AP courses are also modified to help students reach that level of rigor through multiple steps. That's no longer the case (or it shouldn't be) in college. |
You're full of $hit. Your so-called friend's daughter experience is not a fact. And grade inflation is 3 times higher in private schools. |

Sorry to bust your bubble. I know the truth hurts

And you are not exactly a logical giant if you don't understand that 1) there are a wide array of private schools (the kind admitting to top schools don't do grade inflation); AND 2) 2017 was awhile ago... |
You're saying what again? Keep burying your head in the sand. The truth hurts, doesn't it?

All of these links are meaningless because they don't show correlation between grades and other metrics like SAT/ACT/MAP.
Private schools are selective and less geographic. Public schools are open access and more geographic. |
Another parent asked why there weren't more. It goes to show you can't please everyone. |
As a parent, too few assignments and too few points in the All Tasks category bothers me when it results in there not being a chance to recover from one bad quiz. In a world where the whole quarter is 100 points, it can be a big problem to get 1 or 2 points off. |
My kid's MCPS education at Blair prepared them well for MIT. They've just completed their 2nd year and are thriving. |
+1 My MCPS kid is doing finew at UPenn. Stop slamming MCPS. Many kids struggle in college but it is not exclusive to MCPS students. |
Particularly when some teachers give quizzes that are essentially pass/fail. If that’s how the quizzes are going to be then the final grade should be the same way. |
Yup

I believe I’m the parent you’re referring to, but I wasn’t suggesting that there should be more assignments, much less more useless assignments. I was suggesting that whatever (hopefully useful) assignments are given should be graded rather than just checked for having been done, with no determination made as to whether or not they were done correctly. |
