Edison is close but not close enough for the few minutes between classes and that makes no sense.

EDISON IS A TRADE SCHOOL. They do not offer Gen Ed classes. WHS partners with them. Edison does not help the overcrowding

What they are saying is to build more classrooms for Wheaton to use. Yes, we know it’s a trade school.

Are you a crazy person? Wheaton CANT have the same bell schedule as Edison bc the kids would never make it to class on time. Right now, kids take 10-15 minutes to walk. There is no world in which this would work unless you are going to separate underclassmen from upperclassmen, essentially separating Wheaton into two schools

Wheaton and Edison are next to each other. They are as close as many portables are to their school buildings.

Hahaha. You’ve never visited this school, have you? There is NO SPACE adjacent or between WHS and Edison to put a portable. Unless you would like it to go on top of the child development playground, bus loop, or football field. Better yet, let’s put it in the parking lot that only has about 150 spaces for 300+ staff.

Portables would go on the other side of Edison (which is a good 15-2 min walk). AND most of that property is owned by the community pool. So no. There is no option.

New Boundary Study that will “help” with Wheaton’s overcrowding shows:

Option #1: Wheaton [...] would then be above 100% capacity.

Option #2: "All of the high schools would fall between 80% and 100% of enrollment capacity and the majority of the attendance zones would have contiguous boundaries, except for a small area of Wheaton’s attendance zone. "

Option #3: "Wheaton would be slightly above 100% of capacity."

Option #4: "Wheaton [...] would be at about 120% [of capacity]."

HOW IS THIS OK?!?!

wait so what's the over-capacity percentage at Wheaton in option 2?

I have no idea

Option 2, Wheaton is not over capacity. It is estimated at 99 according to the MCPS Initial Boundary Study Options website.

Wow. Yes, so much better. Not at all a disparaging number still compared with other schools. That 1% will really help, thank you.

Wheaton families and community members need to raise a stink about this. Just because we’ve been 500+ over capacity for half a decade doesn’t make it right. 2800 kids going into next school year is unimaginable

No point, they know and don’t care. Mid and upcountry get new schools, DCC does not.

Who says? You? If enough people make a stink, things can happen. The BOE will continue to treat the DCC like sh@! until people say enough.

Woodward is a brand new school to help relieve overcrowding in the DCC

With what money? They’d have to buy land and build.

Woodward is a brand new school to help relieve overcrowding in the DCC

There will barely be a dent to the DCC. It was built to relieve WJ which also needs it.

Math - Woodward will have capacity of a little over 2000, WJ has about 3,000 currently. Not more than 1,000 students at Woodward will come from WJ, meaning at least half of Woodward will come from the DCC, which will be more than "barely a dent"

It will be more. And, most DCC don’t want Woodward because of the commute. Many are cosa from Northwood as it’s a nightmare. They will probably just pull more from wj, some from the surrounding areas and be done with it. More drama than what it will really be.

They are proposing using the existing shell space inside of Edison, not portables.

Which is still a very far walk. The existing double bell schedule for Edison students is already a nightmare.
