Genuine question -- why did you choose them? What statement are you making when you wear camo? I grew up in rural, southern Virginia, and the people who wore/wear camo there are very much pro-gun. My family is military, and we don't wear camo for fun.

We’re at this school. The kids choose the themes, they are different every year except for they always have class color day on the final day. Camo being okay for a spirit day is not antithetical to kids not being allowed to pretend to play guns/kill each other at recess. One is not the same as the other.

I think it's exactly antithetical to kids not being allowed to pretend to play guns and kill each other. The purpose of camo is to hide from other people who you want/need to shoot to kill, or to hide from animals you are hunting. That's what camo is.

It was also a fashion trend not that long ago.

True, but lots of things are fashion trends that a school principal might decide are not appropriate themes for an elementary fashion week. Micro mini shirts, corsets, grills, balaclava/ski mask. Actually, that's a decent Tuesday through Friday line up, after camo.

It’s surface and not that deep. The kids chose and it’s just a fashion statement. Likely the camp they own doesn’t look like actual camo, it’s colorful and bright. It’s so far removed from its original context that it does not warrant admin stepping in because of kids playing violent games while not wearing camo.

Campbell does a spirit week because they don’t do other holidays and it’s a fun secular way at the end of the school year for the kids to “dress up” and have silly fun and it’s totally optional.
