| EFL Championship or Premier League? |
| There are positives to both leagues. |
Donkey alert!!! nothing wrong with WAU, what a donkey! |
Yes, they are about the same. Academies have stronger teams and dominate. Then you have teams that are very weak, and this is evident. |
100%... very political and nasty. I seen it on the VA teams, and most parents know about this. Pretty nasty. |

If your goal is college and you are in DMV ECNL has the better college commitment vs MLS Next IN THIS AREA (source /receipts: TDS college commitments 2023/2024/2025 from VA/MD/DC).
As context- Half the ECNL teams IN THIS AREA are former DA (prior to collapse) and the majority of MLS Next IN THIS AREA are former EDP (with the exception of Bethesda who was prior DA). DC United is top dog for both pro and college but only a few spots there. In DMV area MD- Pipeline (ECNL) or Bethesda (MLS Next) both have very good college track records. It’s not the league, it’s the club. |
MLSNext teams play 40% more regular season games, with the caliber of teams flat out better. In the Region, MLSNext teams play a number of MLS Academies twice a year. Coaching is also better. ECNL is a solid league with a few good teams (VDA comes to mind), but competition drops off quickly. |
Outside of VDA, Richmond and maybe Arlington, Mid-Atlantic ECNL isn’t very strong. It just isn’t. |
It’s not the club it is the players. In order to play for an Ivy you have to be a good student as well as a good athlete. |
Those teams get the opportunity to play better competition than ECNL teams. Age 12-age 15 is all about player development. Kids playing the long game don’t much care about win-loss at this age. It’s being in a position to learn and play against the best talent in the age group. That isn’t at ECNL. |
Uhm- ok. NVA made the national championship last year but they are no good. Let me respond in kind…. Outside of Bethesda and Armour, mid Atlantic MLS Next isn’t very strong. It just isn’t. |
Um, you are forgetting Philadelphia Union, SYC, FC Delco, New York Red Bulls…should I continue? |
why not DCU, DS given a spot on team (bench) would you still decline? |
| Pipeline (ECNL),Bethesda (MLS Next), and DC United are your best bets, and I say that as a Potomac parent that's really happy with our program. Our ECNL is new, and still needs a few more years to catch with the ones I mentioned. |
Nobody would agree with you that Philly Union, NY etc are 'in this area.' You gonna drive 4 hours each way for practice? Uhm. No. OP wanted to know about picking ECNL or MLS NEXT IN THIS AREA (MD) specifically. Nobody would agree with you that Philly Union, NY etc are in this area. |
