Admissions is essentially a lottery based selection and as another post pointed out, a random selection would result in even distribution of talent that would earn grades from A through D. As it is with current class, the top segment enrolls in post AP advanced math courses while the bottom segment that enrolls having completed just algebra 1 struggles to get to the bare minimum lowest level of calculus. When FCPS and TJ administration touts of news worthy accomplishments, they stem from contributions of top segments, and the suffering of the bottom segment, that's told it's OK to earn a C or D, is dealt with as individual student issues. But, hey, the equity goals are being achieved. |
Segment segment segment. Still trolling about segments? |
What's the point of getting into TJ and earning Cs and Ds? How common is it? |
Where are all these kids coming from if the FCPS middle schools are only sending 10-15 kids each? |
FCPS middle schools send about 350 kids, and participating counties - Arlington, Loudoun, Prince William, etc., send about 200 kids, so 550 altogether in a class. |
So typically 10 to 20 kids then per FCPS middle school. |
all segments or quartiles of TJ class get As, and no Cs and Ds? School profile shows GPA ranging from 3.255 to 4.663 weighted, which would mean bottom students do get a bunch of Cs and Ds? |
That's what the new admissions change is targeting, but poorly managed middle schools dont even have 10 to 20 kids interested in applying. Where as other middle schools have hundreds of applicants showing interest. So declined offers from bottom schools get reassigned to high applicant school waitlists. |
I'm thinking the offer first goes to any candidate from that school to equal 1.5%. |
Students from the bottom tier MSs will start declining TJ offers more often as they hear how hard it is to do well there. |
Better to be at the top at your base school and get into UVA than bottom at TJ and go to CNU. |
TJ now has remedial math for struggling students needing help with algebra 1 onward |
what is CNU? |
is the result out? why we having the discussion on waitlist already |
