Why don’t people go for walks without dogs?

I see plenty of other walkers without dogs.

Gosh so many typos! That should be “an Arlington neighborhood” and “around the block.”

So the MIDdle of nowhere?

It's simple. Many people don't think about the benefits of walking, or are too lazy to go without being forced by a dog, or use that time to exercise more intensively.

Lots of people in my neighborhood walk without dogs. But I think either you might notice the dog walkers more, or they are out more often because of the dogs' bathrooms needs. Like a dog walker might do three walks in a day and a non dog-owner might just do one longer walk.

I primarily walk with our dog now, but before I had him, I walked daily by myself. I see lots of both. Maybe it's just feeling weird to you to walk without your dog?

Just another voice chiming in to say that I go for walks by myself all the time. We don't have a dog.

A grown man alone on a walk is creepy.

He needs to bring his wife or dog

Not in any of the neighborhoods I’ve lived in, OP. There are lots of great trails in this area and I see so many people out enjoying them in many ways: with a group, solo, with kids, on a bike, etc.

I walk every day without the dog because the dog refuses to walk.

OP if you walk in an area where you feel safe to do so, put in ear buds and listen to a podcast or an audiobook or music and get back out there. You'll be glad you did.

I don’t get this.

I go on one long walk a day. My dog-owning neighbors are out walking their dog with much higher frequency out of necessity.

People are lazy, that's why.

My neighborhood is basically built around a 3 mile nature walking loop and tons of people walk it, I’d say 50/50 with and without dogs. I could see how some neighborhoods are just not fun for walkers without a purpose such as dog walking. I personally need semi scenic and peaceful to enjoy my walks.

I feel sorry for you.

I live in the suburbs and notice all of our Indian neighbors tend to go out for an evening stroll, so it’s a very normal thing to be walking without a dog.
