I don't get the Eclipse madness!

Because it's something to get excited over. A novelty. I'm going to drive to an area with totality, because as much as I love my job and family, it's nice to mix things up once in a while.

Why does anyone get excited about anything? Why do you spend time and money doing any of the things you do?

These people scoffing at the eclipse make me think of Nina.

Gigantic full moon lighting up the desert. Millions of tiny green frogs singing away. "Come see!"

Nina: "Just what are we supposed to be looking at here?"

It's fine if you don't like it but please don't harsh my mellow, as we used to say in SoCal.

Welcome to DCUM!

I'm interested in it because every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by.

I’m in the path of totality and really don’t care about it at all. Our school has an elearning day, which just makes everything a pain. We’ve been warned by local government to stay home as roads will be a mess.

Are you going to go outside and watch the eclipse, since you're there anyway?

I may go out to the deck for the 3 minutes of totality part, but definitely not spending the full 3ish hours outside DH is planning to.

We didn’t have totality in DC a few years ago.

I understand getting excited and going to a place on the path of totality. It’ll be a lot less interesting in the DC area so I’m not that excited. But it’s a lot cooler than something like the Super Bowl to me.

People could drive to totality from DC in 2017. There was a band through SC. But people didn't make nearly as big a deal of it.

I don't either. During the last one I did stop what I was doing (shopping) for a few minutes and kind of check it out while trying not to burn my eyeballs and then continued on my way.

I would not go out of my way or spend any money to experience the sun disappearing for a short time. It actually disappears where I live every single night for hours.

Thanks, yes, I am a lot of fun.

Thankfully the people in my life don't judge me based on my feelings about eclipses. We have some other stuff going on.

Why are some people so negative about it? Like Debby downers. If you’re not interested then fine but other people are. There’s no reason to be negative about it and wish that there is rain or clouds to ruin the fun for others.

And yet, here you are posting about your feelings about eclipses.
Have you ever seen one in totality? Or do you just want to tell us your feelings about looking up at the sun without solar glasses on while you were shopping?
If you were at all curious about things you don't understand, you might look discover that the sun doesn't "disappear", it is masked by the moon. It's kinda different from the sun setting.
Is this really that hard to understand?

I understand that it's a rare event, but what are we going to see that's so spectacular?
