Best Novel set in DC

Cavedwellers is about DC old money. It's on my to-read list so I can't vouch.

OP, which book(s) did you choose?

I enjoyed The Yellow Wife and didn’t know she had another book set here. Looking forward to reading it!

I just finished a book set in Anacostia in the 70s — Creatures of Passage by Morowa Yejide. Not sure how to describe the writing style, but it’s sort of magical realist and mythological combined with a more modern plot. I’m fairly lowbrow and realist-realist, so it’s not my usual fare, but it was a well-told tale and it really stuck with me.

I won’t read this book because it exploits the horrific murders of a local family.

It"s also poorly written!
I read it when it came out. It was terrible.
