Eh wouldn't say the taxes are so much better in VA. Let's also not forget about the car tax. It also depends on your income level. In the end, differences are negligible.

We moved to N Arlington. Some will say the schools here aren't the best, but we have had a great experience (kids are in middle school) and our commutes are shorter than they were in DC and neighborhood is safer (but still very walkable). Our car is old so car tax is negligible for us.
