Yes.

Male. Govt/history/politics/IR-related. In-state VA. Doesn't qualify for any aid. Willing to pay if a distinct advantage over other options.

Interests intersect nicely with both UVA and W&M. Choose your environment. Georgetown is great, but not worth the price difference.

Georgetown SFS is a "distinct advantage." Would then seriously consider Pomona.

Gotta visit - too many good choices (don't overlook WM, it's a strong contender)

Thanks! All strong contenders so it's tough. Is doing admitted events, Monroe weekend, etc. at WM, UVA and Georgetown very soon. I think BC is out since so expensive and no conferred advantage-though love it and a lot of relatives are alum. GW out- didn't offer any merit. I don't know enough about Pomona yet- but with major DC area or Ivy seems more critical.

Thanks- just responded to other poster. Why Pomona? I admit- I know very little. How would it be better than WM or UVA for those major concentrations?

DC is a go-getter and would succeed in a large or small school. Econ/Finance. Also waiting to hear from UMich.

Doesn’t sound like a Wes type, but more a Colgate. UCLA if wanting to work on the west coast, otherwise, no. UMD if no financial aid and finances are a concern.

Agree. That's a tough one. Georgetown does in IR. But, might consider undergrad in-state and the grad school there.

Tricky. These are all great options for different reasons. I think it comes down a lot to environment and whether student values LAC strengths, types of classmates, collaboration over Cal prestige (of course, all these schools have prestige) and stem opps.

Visit and see where kid feels most at home/excited. Congrats!

Depends on your kid's preferences but I would vote for Rice because I prefer an urban environment and like their residential college system.

Does your kid like small school environment? Then Pomona. Would they thrive at a larger campus? UVA. The two schools are so different. I also can’t imagine picking Pomona over Georgetown for IR. If you’re going to spend the money, then it should be on Georgetown.

Business. Neither are direct admit
UGA cheaper.

DC will go visit anyways but always fun to see others opinions.

Also waiting on Michigan but very unlikely and $$$

Kind of a tough one. Really depends on what the kid vibes with. Midwestern nice or Southern bro. But both good options.

This is a nice problem to have.

Williams will have the weakest Math/Applied Math program. Would choose Rice or Cornell over the UCs. Both UCLA and Berkeley have classes with more than 1500 students. They're fine for grad school, but undergrads are just cogs in the machine. Much better educational experience at Rice or Cornell.

! Somebody apparently unfamiliar with Williams. Order would be Williams, Rice, Cornell, UCLA, Cal...

Totally agree that Williams is the obvious choice, unless they want to work on the west coast (UCLA and Cal) or hang with gear heads (Rice and Cornell).

Rochester and W&M seem to fit the type of school environment your child seeks. Great options though! W&M a fantastic in-state option for science majors.

Are you serious? CMU with the $37k grant.

Yes, I’m serious. CMU grant not guaranteed every year (must reapply) and full costs of attendance $87k. If W&M in-state, full cost of attendance $43k. W&M also more mid-size, which poster stated their child preferred. Was taking into account various factors. Obviously they’re still deciding and seeking input!

CMU for sure.

That's what we told him as he's California dreaming right now^^ I think mid-size would be best. I went to a in-state public about the size of UVA and while I had a great time it was impersonal in regards to profs/class sizes, etc. and the usual gripes about getting classes, etc.
