1970s - I was a kid. #1 for sure
1980s - free and easy 1990s - serious relationships (big gap) 2000s - lumpy 2020s - not as bad as the 2010s but it's early! 2010s - whatever can go wrong, does go wrong (or dies) |
| 1994-2004. There was an assault weapon ban in place, and not a single person was killed in a mass shooting the entire time. |
Hmm. Columbine was in 1999 wasn't it? |
For me, the 1970s were great because of the promise of the future. Everything was “natural” and “peace and love,” and I was very optimistic. But I agree with PP that 2001 was the beginning of the new dark ages. |
GenX born in 1970. 70s were right up there!! Definitely 70s and 80s! 90s pretty good the world kept getting worse after 9/11 and advent of social media/iphones and people being able to track you/feeling need to be hooked to a phone by text, etc. |
53. Child 1-13 1970-1983. Teen 13-19 1984-1989. 20s 1990-1999 (did party like it was 1999!!) 30s 2000-2009 40s 2010-2019 50s 2020-present Gen X was really the best. No phones. No helicopter parents. Free-range. |
| The 90s were awesome; had hope for the future, there was an assault weapons ban after the attempted assassination of Reagan, the Berlin Wall has fallen and the recession was over. |
| The period after Bill Clinton was elected but before the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke was a great time. Awesome music and the world just felt like it was moving in the right direction. |
| This makes me sad for my kids. Born in the early 2000’s post 9/11. I hope they can look back on their lives and have some of the same nostalgia and warm feelings we older people have . |

I was 19 when 9/11 happened. But looking back, it does feel like the world began slowly unraveling shortly thereafter. I think social media was pretty corrosive too.
In light of how bad things got after 9/11, did OBL “win”? It certainly feels like it. |

1990s were great.
9/11 ruined so much. I feel like everything has been awful since then. |

90s--I remember thinking at the time, that it was probably a golden time
00s 80s 70s--I was a kid and teen. I remember the Vietnam War was a constant, then the gas shortage, Watergate, ending with hostages in Iran. It was a stressful time 10s 20s |

Agree with others. Things really starting changing after 9-11 in ways that today's kids don't understand how much easier life was pre 2001.
For all the "be kind" and so-called tolerance of today, we were much more laid back as a society in the 1990s. Much if it is due to the pervasive and negative influence of social media distorting everything in general. |
