Our school is on a bit of an upward trajectory, so some portion of that could be school-specific, but I think a big increase would have to reflect a system-wide increase in numbers. Will be interesting to see.

Would you mind sharing what school?

I was at the launch of this report last week, https://www.dcpolicycenter.org/publications/state-of-dc-schools-2022-23/ - while they did not share any concrete data, they were talking about enrollment trends, and the impression given was that enrollment (based on lottery data) has continued to increase. If you look at page 6, besides the one year in the pandemic, enrollment has been on the rise since 2013. The report breaks it down by age/grade level as well, which is interesting. For example, the last two years, increased enrollment in public high schools (both public and charter) has been what was driving growth.

The school I was talking about is an elementary school and enrollment in PK/ES is still down from pre-pandemic levels (although it is not at our school; there was a dip in enrollment, but this year we have caught back up to where we were previously).

Right, who knows what this year's data will show, but last year and the year before the growth was driven overall by high school enrollment . Which kind of makes sense seeing all the increase number of threads about different high schools that normally aren't talked about as much on here. But some elementary schools definitely did increase enrollment while others did not. This data includes both charter and public schools too, so lots of range. Also, I have heard that the birthrate has been stagnant or slowing down in DC as well as increased housing prices for families looking to buy a house. So those two things could also impact enrollment at elementary and younger grades.

Interesting observation about high school threads.

I hope you like your current school or can move, because those are quite unlikely to happen for you. Sorry.

Does the lottery update the number on the waitlist we are in daily? If let's say people select a certain school or remove a choice from their list that they were accepted because they no longer want it?

Yes. It updates in real time and can change multiple times a day.

Be aware that siblings can jump you on the list, don't freak out if your number goes the wrong way.

Thank goodness for private because our numbers were horrific - over #100 for anything we wanted.

So, thankful to have other options despite the cost.

I’m really sorry OP, I don’t think you’re going to get in any of those.

We are #6 for 2nd Grade at Ludlow Taylor (our second choice) and have a better number at our first choice so just waiting to get that offer and then you’ll move up at least one there. But they only made 7 waitlist offers for 2nd last year, so even at #31 you’re out. I think Ludlow was your best shot, you just had a really unlucky master lottery number.

Hope you can make it through another year at your IB and try again next year.
