What happens at a middle school dance?

There's no slow dancing and the music is typically an upbeat mix of hip-hop, latin and pop. There's also food and extras like photo booths, props/give-aways/accessories and fun backdrops, all social media ready. "Dancing" consists of kids energetically jumping up and down and forming circles so kids can do tricks, otherwise show off or attempt to dance battle. Phones are always out, and it's all captured and readily available in real time, online. There are still plenty of opportunities for kids to just hang out on the perimeter, bathrooms or outside space, if available.

FWIW, not that much changes in HS. There's still no slow dancing, but more songs that give a bump and grind feel. Established couples will spend time together, but it's still largely just a big social free-for-all, with more hormones in play

Thanks for confirming - it’s about showing off. It sounds incredibly stupid.

Why on Earth would schools promote such garbage ie social media ready? We know how damaging social media is for teenagers.

Are you the dad from Footloose? It’s ok now. The dancing can’t hurt you anymore.

You all are idiots. There are still slow dances. I saw video of many couples slow dancing from a MS dance earlier this year. LIGHTEN UP and let these kids have fun.

Ours doesn’t have any either. No idea about high school. I would hope they did in high school.

Slow dancing for middle schoolers is inappropriate. Not surprised American schools condone this crap though. This doesn’t exist in Europe or other countries that take education seriously.

I love Bingo Night! It is always such a fun, inclusive event. Wish they did them more in MS.

It’s an event geared toward tweens and teens, but glad that your adult self is still so butthurt about your MS experience that you feel better by saying it sounds incredibly stupid.

Ummm do you even have MS kids? Bingo night would get a hard pass from most of them.

Yes, of course. They would definitely like it.

Usually they do hard core drugs like marijuana. I’m a teacher and I had to prevent the drug sale of fentanyl from on student to another in the bathroom during the dance so my best advice is don’t send your child to one.
