What European country/city would you go with an 8 year old?

My kid is 8 and has been to Europe a few times and remembers, in detail, the trips we took starting from around age 5. I remember things I did when I was 8. Not that "memories" are the main point here, but this isn't an 8 month old.

Anyway, for 4-5 days I'd just stay close to Sweden. Copenhagen is the obvious answer and I do think there's loads to do; as mentioned, Tivoli Gardens, the beaches in the country, and lots of walking.

If you really want to get out of those Scandinavian countries, I'd do Poland or Berlin and I'd fly there from Copenhagen. Either would be a quick nonstop flight and would give you a totally different experience.

NP - you are nuts. Who takes an 8 yr old to Tivoli Gardens and walking??! No way the 8 yr old wants to do that. Yes, agree they will remember but just the fun stuff. I did a ton of international travels from age 6-12. You know what I remember? Nothing at all except Italy cause it was fun!!! You can take an 8 yr old to Europe but you gotta make it something they would find fun, I would not call Sweden and Copenhagen fun. I would call going to the beach in S of France way more fun and eating yummy desserts in France or Italy fun as well Go see a castle in Germany or something!

There's some bizarre comments on this post. I have a 5&8 year old and they love traveling to Europe. We visited Copenhagen and Tivoli gardens and it was amazing. There's awesome playgrounds, great bike riding, and tasty food.

My kids loved Paris - tons of kid friendly things to do.

They absolutely adored London. I think that has been our favorite city in Europe so far; there is SO much to do. You can do a Paddington tea bus tour - we did Peppa pig because my youngest was still 4 but we loved it. SO much to do and the playgrounds are excellent.

Italy would be great in May as well and is supposed to be terrific with kids. If your 8 year old is in 3rd grade then they are probably learning about ancient Rome, so that could be really cool to tie it in.

Have fun!

I feel like you might not know what Tivoli Gardens is. Hint: it isn’t a garden.

We are going to Copenhagen with our 7 and 9 year olds this summer, I'm worried we are going to run out of time!

I'm the quoted "nuts" PP and I was just going to say "tell me you don't know anything about Copenhagen without telling me you don't know anything about Copenhagen."

An afternoon at a playground or park
A boat / river cruise
A cafe for some hot chocolate or whatever
A museum of some sort (the modern art museums usually have something more interesting for them to see/experience)
A bike ride

I guess my kids aren’t that sophisticated, because no way an art museum makes the cut.

Don’t knock it before you try it and do research look for a hands on one. Centre Pompidou in Paris was amazing.
