If you are an emotional eater, how do you control the urge to eat?

I’m the evening, I try to go to bed. During the day I try to remind myself to do something on my to do list rather than eat a snack. I eat when I’m feeling overwhelmed so knocking something off my to do list makes me feel better than a snack. I’m trying to retrain myself. It’s slow.
