Tulane

This.

Kids I know from the DMV struggled to get internships in the DMV. Both finally stayed in Houston and NO for an internship.

I think any kid going to Tulane should plan to live in that region of the country to start their career. That should be fine for most kids…it should be part of the reason for attending.

Fun city. Have you visited New Orleans in the last year? Anything but fun. Scary is more like it.

This was not true this year for girls.

Everyone knows (even girls) that apply ED and are full pay are of less caliber than the EA admits.

THIS is why. Those who have few other good options will latch on to Tulane for this reason only.

NO you are actually wrong. 31% ED acceptance rate last year.

No, you’re wrong. They fill2/3 of the class ED one. With lower stats, full pay students.

Actually, I am right. New admissions director changed that. For the class of 2027, Tulane admitted 1,209 of the 3,852 ED applicants. Therefore, the Tulane ED acceptance rate for ED was 31%

That’s what they said, but that’s not what’s happened.

Got in with no demonstrated interest. Has never visited. Now that she's done more research, is beginning to really love the school in part due to the vibe. She's been way too busy, way too stressed during high school. Seems like happy smart kids attending interestimg classes but with time to have fun. Her hang up is the boy/girl ratio as she'd like to have a boyfriend in college. Probably sounds frivolous to many but after what these kids go through in high school to get admitted I think alot want a more normal life in college.

Agree with this take 100%. High school, college applications, and our world in general is so intense and stressful - Tulane offers a more balanced and fun college experience. NOLA is so different culturally from anywhere else (part of why we send our kids to college is to grow as people), there is no comparative city in the US. The weather, the social life, good academics... students at Tulane are widely known to love their school and be HAPPY. I work in psychiatry, the debilitating anxiety and depression today's teens and college students are experiencing is unprecedented. Seems like nobody is talking about this, and we need to be.

Such an overrated school. Not as popular though. Applications are actually down for Tulane.

Don’t disagree with your take that Tulane undergrads appear HAPPY. I strongly suspect that’s because so many of them are DRUNK and live to go to a good PARTY and obviously POST TO SOCIAL MEDIA.

The girls and the one guy we know well from DC private school world who currently attend Tulane world appear to be wasted multiple times a week, per my kid who’s SM friends with them.

And no, they aren’t the top students from upper NW. But they are RICH. And ATTRACTIVE.

It's not like Tulane has the market cornered on drunk college students. One of mine is at a private T20 and the drinking is COMPLETELY and totally OUT-OF-CONTROL. It's ridiculous to suggest that Tulane students are only happy because you know a couple of kids who get drunk multiple times a week.

SMH. Some bitter people on here live to throw some shade on kids' colleges.

Private school 3 is harder tha. public where kids can retake tests. Schools like Tulane know this.

I agree that a lot of business kids from Tulane end up in Houston, but you need to realize that a ton of Tulane kids are from Texas or the South and NYC or Chicago isn’t really the goal. However, my DC is at Tulane and had no problem getting an internship in NYC this summer and is planning to live with a few other Tulane friends that also have internships in NYC. Also, tons of Tulane grads that are from the NE live and work in NYC.

My DC was accepted to Tulane EA and the kids I know accepted ED this year are definitely not mediocre students. I think a lot of students understood this cycle was going to be a challenging admissions year (and it has been so far) and didn't want to roll the dice. That's the impression I'm getting anecdotally from the students I know who ED'd to schools outside of the T20s including Tulane. Many extremely strong students we know were rejected from their T10/20 ED1 schools and are now are in ED2 at Tulane.

I've been researching LinkedIn for where Tulane alumni live. More difficult to determine where they are landing business-related internships. We both loved Tulane during our visit to NOLA, so it's a strong contender and I would love to hear more about experiences from current business students as far as internships go. Here are the Top 10 cities for Tulane alumni, so the majority outside of NOLA/LA live in NY and not TX.

1. Louisiana
2. New York Metro
3. New York City
4. Texas
5. California
6. New York State
7. DC / Baltimore
8. Florida
9. Los Angeles
10. Houston
11. San Francisco
12. Chicago

We know a terrific student going to Tulane. Ignore the haters.

I don't have skin in the game or a student at Tulane but to just completely denigrate a school and all of the students in it as being "mediocre", "drunk", "not the cream of the crop", "drawn to the party atmosphere" (anecdotally that is definitely not what I've seen as being the primary driver), "The early decision acceptance rate at Tulane University is 68%... Those who have few other good options will latch on to Tulane for this reason only."

The parental judgment and shade on here is petty and gross. And boldly inaccurate on top of it. No wonder our kids are miserable.

You realize it is ranked in the 70s this year because USNWR changed its metrics this to place emphasis on Pell grant recipients. So public schools moved way up in the rankings (like Rutgers). They also stopped considering things like how many classes are taught by professors vs TAs, etc. This hurts private universities like Tulane because it is very much a southern, old money, rich kid school. Great education, but has not really focused on educating first gen kids or geared toward with social mobility. These kids almost all really, really loaded and don’t ANY social mobility. My kid gets offers to ride home from break on her friend’s private jet. That kind of rich.

Nobody has actually given a valid explanation for why Tulane dropped so much (as well as other schools like Wake Forest) when a number of their private peer schools didn’t drop anywhere close. It would only be valid if they all dropped accordingly.
