How to dispose of old paper bills, paperwork without a shredder

Anonymous
I flush it down the toilet.

The plumber's bills have been $$$ lately. Maybe I'll buy a shredder. Wirecutter's "Best" is $82.

No one is out in the middle of the night digging through my trash. I'm not a Hollywood Celeb or a Russian Spy, nor would my activities interest one, as my trash bags are full of rotting meat that I forgot to cook old bills, and lots of junk mail.

When the garbage men pick it up, it's taken to the transfer station where it is dumped into a giant container, which then gets trucked to the I-95 landfill, where giant backhoes/bulldozers push it into a pit, this happens happens about 2,000 times a day, trash from millions of homes gets dumped alongside my bills and rotting meat, buried underneath 1 ton of rotting stinking garbage.

The real money to be made these days is from online scammers, like the 30-year-old online "catfish hottie" who convinces Grandpa Joe that he's the love of her life and please send money.

Really no one is fishing through your suburban garbage unless you are a pop star or a Russian spy.

This. 100%. Shredding businesses are laughing all the way to the bank. Rip it half. Throw it in the trash. And, while you're thinking about it, stop all paper bills and statements.

Why did you waste your time typing this all up this post and the next one 19:27? They're not even remotely funny and totally useless.

Grandpa Joe is that you?

Glad I fast forwarded to the last page…

This is overkill .

What paperwork has your info in it? A personal check years ago was a bigger trove of info and if you made it thru that you’re probably good.
No one is going thru your trash to get a copy of your colonoscopy or gas bill or donation receipt. Give your neighbors more credit. Everything is online. Either thru want to take over your bank account or just scam you into sending them the info. You should go is on being diligent in your email and text and get two-factor. You all sound like my 70yo This is FIL. This is def something else that needs to die with the next generation.

Some in each bathroom trash can, some in the office trash, and some right before you take out the kitchen trash and then some in a new kitchen bag. It sounds like a lot of work but it’s not really.

This is what I do. If you have the FBI or Scientologists going through your trash, this won’t help. However, it should help for a lazier and less motivated snoop.

For those not in apartments, having a fire is a great way to get rid of a lot of papers.

But before we had a shredded we had a lot of personal papers we saved to shred that was too much for a household shredder. We waited for one of the local free shred events and took it there.

This. Spend the $30 and get a shredder or take the paperwork to a community shredding event. Then stay on top of your shredding so that you won't run into this issue again.

You can rip it apart by hand but it's going to be a cumbersome, tedious job. It can be done, I've done it myself but the shredder is so much easier and faster.

Oh but this is for very confidential work stuff that I’m obligated to destroy. Not my bills, lol.

OP I hope you also have lots of security with all your online stuff. Unique passwords, proton mail, etc. That’s the real danger.
