Potomac v Rockville

My kids went to Wootton High school and had a good experience. However I am certain if they went to Churchill they would've had a good experience as well.

The difference really is socioeconomic. While there are certainly very wealthy neighborhoods that are zoned for Wootton, I think Churchill has on average more wealthy students by far.

I can tell you, if you have a daughter, the volleyball team at Wootton is awesome! And the girls basketball coach is great as well. My daughter also ran cross country and that had a really great inclusive environment for all of the kids.

If you have a son, the sports are great, except for this football team. But as long as he doesn't play football, you'll be fine. Sadly, my son played football and it was a very disappointing four years for him although he made great friends and had a great time on the team.

Both communities like to punch down. Churchill looks down on Wootton, especially in the Cabil John MS zone, since that school feeds to both high schools. Wootton will look down on Richard Montgomery and Quince Orchard.

North Potomac is closer to Muddy Branch and Dufief. On the other side of Wooton and approaching Quince Orchard on Rt. 28. Some people call it Gaithersburg because the zip code is 20878. Rockville is Rockville, not Gaithersburg. Mt. Prospect, Kentlands, Washingtonian Woods and Lakelands are all Gaithersburg. Not sure if those neighborhoods are considered N. Potomac.

Yes. Outlined in red here is a map of the census-designated place called North Potomac:

It's mega affluent. We are very comfortable but our house is 1.1 as opposed to 2.2. It was a shock to me to see my kid's Snapchat location map during the first break and see his school friends were literally all over the world - dozens of them. Many of his friends order food every lunch period and indiscriminately order extra for others. I imagine it's $100s per week.

Academics are very solid. Lots of opportunities for interesting classes. Clubs are dynamic. Lots of motivated, well-rounded kids.

The community we've interacted with is smart, motivated, hard working, and overall we are really like the vibe. But affluenza is a serious thing. Our kid is pretty resilient and grounded and not upset that they might have the lowest HHI of a particular friend group (at 450K, ha!) but YMMV. This kind of environment can go screwy in many ways.

This is ridiculous. 1/3 of the school is Beverly Farms and for parents that have been around since elem school almost no house was a million dollars. Sure there are super rich kids, but there are plenty of grounded kids with parents making average amounts of money. Stop trying to make it richer than it is.

Median household income in Montgomery County is about $125,000.

In 2021, the median household income of the 16.5k households in Potomac, MD grew to $198,870

Parents making average amounts of money FOR POTOMAC...

Potomac median income is 50% higher than MoCo median, and 80% higher than Rockville median income. (But Wootton is probably the higher end of Rockville income.)

I thought Rockville was called North Potomac these days?

Wootton HS is within the municipal boundaries of the City of Rockville, which makes it: Rockville. Wootton HS is in Rockville.

My real estate agent calls it North Potomac.

Yes that's how most people think of it these days.

I've lived here 5 years and all this time I thought of it as North Potomac. Who knew it was a city?

These are the city limits of Rockville. Wootton HS itself is inside the limits, but quite a few of the neighborhoods zoned to Wootton are not. Hope that clears things up.

What's are those 2 little packets that are "outside city limits"?

They never allowed the city to annex their land. One is Hectic Hill, and you can Google it.

Wooton is great and better IMO than Churchill as it's more diverse in many different ways but both are pressure cookers. There's a lot of mental stress at both schools due to academic pressure.

Churchill is overcrowded and forecast to remain so. Wootton has space available, but their building is old and needs to be replaced, yet that isn't scheduled until 2029.

Potomac house is 50-100% more expensive than Rockville/north Potomac

Your real estate agent could call it Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and it would still be in the City of Rockville.

If you get Rockville City services, you are in Rockville.
