I actually think it DOES sound like impactful, meaningful work-- and that doesn't mean it should be underpaid, even if the firm was a nonprofit.
SMEs in international development I'd say would charge 100/hr in many many cases |
You dodged a bullet. |
Yes, but international development is more about grifting and corruption than development |
| Please out the company. I work in healthcare and bet I know them. Their response is breathtakingly shameless...trying to shame YOU for wanting your time and skill to be paid what it's worth. |
Experience. Qualifications and certifications. A 13 yo probably has very little in the way of either. Maybe CPR? |
| I referee youth sports and it comes out to about $35/hour. So. |
No way you have received written offer so soon after email. I think you are jerking our chains |
|
My middle schooler makes a higher hourly rate umping Little League baseball games.
Their pay and perspective are bananas. |
I see you are on the side of people doing things for money, and concluding that those involved should basically volunteer. One point - that is exactly what gets poor quality results, including grifting and corruption. |

Where is this company located? The minimum wage for DC is $17 an hour, the minimum wage for Maryland is $15 an hour and the minimum wage for Virginia is $12 an hour. My kids worked for the city of Rockville in Montgomery county and the minimum wage here is north of $16. I think it's 16.75
So basically $15 an hour is less than minimum wage in DC and close in Maryland. Just another perspective of how low that rate is |
| Sounds like your expertise is not worth more than $15/ hour |
| Out the company. |
| I’d respond with “lol, bye.” |
+1 so I can see how much the CEO makes. |
You should respond, "Expertise in such a field is worth more than $15/hour for a company that profits from its products". Also, this is the midwest, where minimum wage is probably way below $15. So, there's that. |
