Real hardwood, you can leave for decades without re-doing. My parents didn't redo their floors for thirty years, until they moved, and they looked fine. Their current house (which was their vacation home and now their current home) has not been re-finished since the 1980s. And it looks fine.

Engineered hardwood consists of 100% hardwood on the top wear layer, so I’m not sure how you could tell assuming it is a quality product. LVP is a good choice for basements and beach houses. Otherwise, no.
