Halle Bailey had a baby...

Also DCUM: why doesn’t a 34-year-old popstar have a baby yet!?

When is the correct age to get married by DCUM standards? To have a baby? To have a second kid?

When you're established enough in your career to be able to call the shots and not be mommy tracked. I don't think a 23 year old is there yet so likely her career will suffer. And it's hilarious that people keep referencing Reese Witherspoon. Whose older kids are almost adults. Curious there aren't loads of other examples in the past 18 years to make this seem like a no brainer.

On the one hand, she's a young woman with more financial resources than most her age. So she can certainly afford to raise a kid.
On the other, what is she thinking professionally? Unless she's not really interested in being an actor? Seems like most young actors try to pile on numerous smart opportunities while they're finding some early fame, so this choice stands out.

Sophie Turner was 24
Reese Witherspoon was 22
Victoria Beckham was 24
Adele was 24
Megan Fox was 26
Hillary Duff was 24

All of these people still have careers.

Come out from under your rock. She was Ariel in the live action Little Mermaid.

Lol, yeah I don't really watch kids movies anymore because my youngest is in high school. But again, that's wonderful for her!

LOL! You sound dumb.

"secret" = surrogate

You think a 23 yo rising star got a surrogate while faking a pregnancy? She was photographed many times with a belly.

Gee, I wonder what it is about this successful, beautiful young actress that makes so many people want to make up lies about her or question her choices.

HMM, WHAT COULD IT BE?

Stop playing the race card, this has nothing to do with her race. Good for her, she seems like a lovely young woman.

Hahaha, the post right after yours had tons of others. Sophie Turner is the most recent.

Oh yes, the months-long outcry, debates and drama over her being cast as Ariel had “nothing to do with her race.”

Nice. Try.

Brandy was 25 and her career trajectory was very similar to Halle's.
Started as a teen singer, then landed multiple high profile acting roles, while mainly her music career.

The bottom line is, Halle Bailey is extremely talented and hard working and that will take her far.

As someone who while not a movie star in my own way focused on achieving in my career before starting a family, and then had tale as old as time fertility issues in my mid 30s, I WISH I had done what Halle Bailey did. Because yes my career might have been different but I believe I still would have had a successful one AND I’d have likely had the children I wanted without such intervention/impact to my body and I’d be a more energetic younger parent and eventually grandparent.

This makes more sense to me than celebrities who have babies in the 50s. When you are a child actresses you are already more mature than most. You also have more income than most 24 year olds (isn’t this why ppl keep saying they can’t have kids) so you have the resources. Plus- you have the energy to still keep up with your career. I’ve never understood people like Cameron Diaz that wait until 50- it makes no sense

I read the title as “Halle Berry has a baby”. That would have been a more interesting thread.

I had a child in my 20s and it made a mess of my body. You have a better chance of bouncing back quickly then, yes, but having babies in your 20s is not a magic key to not having issues

I also experienced secondary infertility in my 30s, so our children are 8.5 years apart (partly planned, partly not)
