This guy sounds like a piece of work! Glad you sent him on to other pastures. Imagine how much damage people like that do in cultures where they can get power from it e.g. Stalin era. Yikes.

I would never trust someone who reported me to my boss for something innocuous like visiting a website during work. The longer he’s there, the more he’s going to impact morale. He’ll eventually drive away the other analysts and cause good employees to quit.

OP here- he was let go yesterday. My manager went over to chat with him about how things are going and saw that he had a spiral notebook on his desk logging the arrival and departure times of the other analysts.

This was probably the right decision, but his manager should have at least sat down with him and told him that he's not a manager and that documenting the behaviors of other people is not acceptable. More than one weenie in your office if you ask me.
