You should suggest the markers on the floor. Or the teacher ask the class to shift to make room. |
Please share where you go for Iyengar Yoga-i am looking for in-person studios. |
I am a regular at a studio where every class is packed. You need to talk to the studio manager, Op, and they need a better system and policy.
At my studio, there are very clear dots in the floor so you know exactly where to put your mat. Staff will walk around before class and make sure people are aligned properly. The staff will regularly save spaces for regulars and regulars will save for each other as well - we are very particular about which spaces we want. Annoying, yes. But also annoying to have a subpar class at a studio I pay an annual membership fee for because someone messed up the mat system. |
I'd go up to an empty yoga mat, say "Who's mat is this--Larla's? Where is she? Not here yet? Oh no. Well, I'll set up here then, I'm sure she'll be able to squeeze in when she gets here"
Stand up for yourself! |
Let go of your attachments to "your spot". |
This is exclusive and obnoxious. If preferred spots are a stated benefit of membership, okay - but if you just think you're better than everyone and you deserve a better spot because you are a regular, no. |
If I were a newcomer to a studio, I'd be extremely annoyed by this. Old timers lording it over everyone else. No thank you. Good bye. If I were a studio owner, I'd have clearly designated spots for mats. And then first come, first serve. And no, that doesn't mean laying a mat down and disappearing for 30 minutes. Body on the floor. |
