Which FCPS middle doesn’t have algebra? Seems strange.

Think long and hard. (If not gunning for TJ), does the student really need to master math beyond Calculus - in high school?

They will have a full schedule, beyond math. They will have other interests, beyond school. Do not advance them because it's flattering that they've been offered this choice. Don't advance them because parents in their (current) friend circle can't resist the accolades.

My kid took algebra in 6th. Now a college junior majoring in math. No regrets. In fact, he wishes he had taken more DE math classes in HS.

My kid started algebra in 3rd grade. I’m teaching. About ready to start algebra 2/trig books.

I took the same math every year from 6-8 due to going to a poor school with no books. Waste of time. I was bored

I read it, and it doesn’t address it. That’s why I asked.

You say they’ll take other classes. Actually, if they accelerate in math in middle school, they’ll get 2-4+ hs credits out of the way and could have more time for other electives, so taking hs math early would help.

If they like math then they can continue with more math and they’ll be happy.

So why not?
