Looking for new travel baseball teams in MD

+1 We really wanted BCC Select to be the perfect medium option, but it was essentially rec ball with more games. There were a few kids who were interested in improving and had talent, but most were not at the same interest level as DS. Coaches were very uneven--some great, others terrible. DS wants to play in high school so really the only option was to move to a travel team. Fortunately, there are a number of clubs (mentioned in this thread) that are less "travel" than they are about a higher commitment to development and competition.

I highly reccomend BCC Select despite what these other posts say. Sure, coaching does vary, but the overall compeitiion level is strong. Plenty of future High School players in the mix. My son played Select and now plays Varsity at his public HS.

I was reading this thread and want to echo this poster. Same exact experience.

We loved BCC Select. Agree that coaching can vary, but I feel like that is also the case with travel baseball.

My son’s teammates did go on to play HS ball. And like the PP, my son also now plays Varsity at his public HS on a competitive team.

For those of you with kids who played BCC Select and made their HS team, did they also play on another team? What HS do they go to? We had a positive experience with BCC Selects but I can’t imagine that being enough prep to try out for a highly competitive team (which describes all of the public and private schools close to us)

If you are not also working on developing outside of your team, you will unfortunately be left behind in MOCO. That goes for Travel or Select players.

You need to be hitting in the cages, getting infield reps at home, lifting weights, and maybe hire some professional 1:1 training. That's the way it is in MOCO now. The best guys are doing that no matter where they play.

Agree, but PP who were happy with Selects did not mention the outside extra work and seemed to imply Selects prepared their kid for HS ball. We just didn’t see that with our son. Moved to travel to get more consistent coaching, teammates with same goal of playing in HS, more reps with team, etc.

We have played in dynasty for 4 years and have not once seen or heard of any kid playing down - my son’s 9u team had an amazing 7 year old and his 11u team had mostly great 10 year olds who weren’t going to be 11 until the next season.

I don’t know where you are getting that. Not our experience and we’ve played Dynasty for years (and DS has an end of April birthday — the worst birthday in baseball).

Sorry, playing Select is not going to get you on most high school teams in MoCo.
