Travel Soccer?

Anonymous
I worked in a Soccer Company that promoted exchange program between soccer players in Europe, Brazil and USA.

It was an amazing experience for all of them, no matter how old they were.
we had boys as old as 7yo up to college age.
some families would travel with the kids, some would travel just to watch the games. It was always fun and a very enriching experience for all of them.

If you want your child to grow as an individual let him free to chose where he wants to go but make sure he will keep the focus. (the kids had to hold a certain GPA to be admited in the program )

good luck!

As the private school admissions process is now almost over, back to the issues that really count . . . when do travel soccer tryouts start? We are new to DC. Is Stoddert the only game in town?

Why do travel soccer if you're happy with your rec team?

Some kids like to play at a higher level. Wasn't right for my kid, but some love it.

Just received notice regarding Stoddert travel tryouts. My DS is 8. He loves his rec team. But DH is pushing him into travel. Can you do both?

If you play for Stoddert you are allowed to do both, and many players continue on their rec teams for years. The only thing is that, if there is a head-to-head conflict (a Saturday game or a practice conflict) you are expected to go to the travel commitment over the rec.

If you play for MSI you are only allowed to play on one team - rec, classic, or travel.

Did anyone else's DS tryout for boys u-9 travel soccer at stoddert? Seemed like half the number of previous year (more like 100 kids) based on info from this thead. It wasn't half as bad as i expected other than the questionable weather. Do you know when they will post the teams and how many there will be and how many per team? Thanks!

And MSC which is affiliated with MSI. And Seneca Soccer Club.

Go to the NCSL website and you can see all the clubs that have travel teams.

That is true until U12 or U13, at which point you can have a certain number of carded travel players on a classic team. Lots of kids at that age do both. Having just finished a season of 2 teams I will say it was exhausting...3-4 practices a week and games every Saturday and Sunday.

Maybe the word has gotten out what a time suck travel soccer is, how brutally competitive it is, and how crazy the travel parents can be.

Not at Stoddert. It takes a lot of time, it's competitive but not brutally so, and the parents are relatively sane. Now at some of the clubs from the outer suburbs...

Ironic, as Stoddert is populated by the upper NW/Bethesda private school set, and if DCUM is any reflection, those within the subset of our species are all relatively insane.
