The part of St. Louis around Wash. U. is fun and beautiful.

Wash U is now one of the most woke and progressive schools. Since they hired a new chancellor their entire goal is to bring in more URM, poor students. The chancellor is very open about that and they have actually changed their admissions philosophy. Wash U is very accepting of the SJP movement and protecting speech for this group. It is a fabulous school and on the cutting edge of progressiveness since Chancellor Martin took over.

This is complete bullsh*t. Nonsense. No connection to reality.

The schools that dropped, fell because they did not enough poors. If that is your main concern, do not send them there.

Chicago never should have made T10. It was always on the lower side of T20.

Chicago (12th) had been in the top 10 every year since 2007 and hadn't been lower than a tie for 6th in over a decade. However, they were regularly outside the top 10 in the 90s and early 2000s, when many current parents were going to college.
WashU (24th) had been in the top 20 every year since 1991 and was top 15 the last two years and in most years since 2005.
Both have been ranked lower in other publications too. Forbes, for example, ranked them 28th and 40th, though to be fair that was in a combined ranking with the top LACs as well.
I've read on DCUM about the Big 3 connection to Chicago. Will that willingness to apply ED2 to one of these schools continue? Parents on this board use "T10" regularly when talking about prestige.
In the midwest, Northwestern moved above Chicago and Notre Dame moved above WashU (both also occurred in the Forbes ranking too). Is there a reshuffling again in the top midwestern schools? Northwestern was commonly the highest ranked school in the midwest in the late 90s and early 2000s. It is a little funny that the rankings are coming full circle back to when we were looking at colleges ourselves.

The rankings are not particularly meaningful. A T30 school will be a good school, but there isn't much difference between a school ranked #4 and one ranked #22. Chicago, WashU (and I'd add Rice) are just as good as the Ivies for undergraduate education and attract kids who are just as smart and perhaps a little less impressed by prestige and rankings. The drop in rankings will just make them a little easier to get into. It's all good.

- and now we all know why it is dropping in objective ratings.

Go read the Chancellor Martin's bio and goals for the school. Separate from the rankings, the school is bleeding money from its endowment to recruit underprivileged kids. I am not saying if this is a good thing or bad thing but it just is. Read about their "Make Way" campaign!!
And read about Chancellors Martin's response to October 7! the Chabad and Hillel are amazing in large bc of the large jewish student body, but that does not align with the school's goals.

My son planned apply ED2 to Wash U but after visiting switched to another school. I am not sure if it is because of the rankings as the school to which he applied is similarly ranked. He is is white and jewish and felt like those were not the students the school was catering too.
