How much would you spend on a sofa?

However, if you’re investing in furniture for 10,20,30 years, $3700 for a couch is not unreasonable. Keep in mind that most traditional furniture can be bought for 40% off any day of the week. So, you should be able to get a $6500 couch for $3700.

How 40% off? From North Carolina shops?

Retail mark ups are 40% on high end furniture, less on Pottery barn, Serena and Lilly, etc.

Designers can buy at net and charge you the difference.

So if you get lucky and your friend is a designer they could buy a Hickory chair at net (roughly 40% off msrp) and sell it to you at their cost.

Got a sectional from Costco for around $1200 a few years ago. It is super comfy, trendy looking and is holding up great!

We spent 12k on our new sectional a couple years ago and it still looks brand new. Considering it is basically white (we have dogs and kids) I'll take that as a win. I wanted a quality piece, but it was hard to part with that money in my opinion. I feel better about the purchase now, seeing how it holding up.

Just spent close to $7k on a room and board sectional. Income is $500k.

$3700 is not a high end sofa. If you like it, fine. If you want something to last, buy quality.
