Sidwell High School

There is a popular clique of mean boys, but lots of nice ones too. Your child will find his place. It's a good school, and the administration is not afraid to discipline.

No. Applied but turned it down for another school. Learned enough to know that it's called the "Upper School" and never "high school."

I was referring to the XC team. I really don't know any of the rising 9th-graders as I have an older kid.

You really don't get it.

Ignore the troll. Pitch your language to your audience, for clarity and as a matter of courtesy (something that is sorely lacking on this thread). If you are talking to somebody from outside the school, you want talk in language that (a) means the same thing to them that it does to you, and (b) doesn't risk suggesting you think you're part of some clique with it's own exclusive or affected language. For (a), I'm referring to the fact that in some K-8 schools, the term "upper school" refers to the 7-8th graders.

With families from your own school, obviously "upper school" is a clear, unaffected, and by far the easiest way to get your meaning across.

And you're wasting our time ... why?

I mean, clearly the "no" was written by the same person who posed the question.. Even their IP addresses are identical

How do you know that? (That's something I'd love to be able to see!)

That said, wouldn't posts from the same institution and/or wifi spot have the same IP address? Probably not an issue for DCUM but for more trafficked sites, it would be.

Don't worry; 4:56 is just messing with you. I asked the original question ("Do any of you trading insults for the past several posts actually have any children at Sidwell?"), and I did not post any answer.

By the way also ignore the troll about the ninth grade boys. Not a problem class.

I am not a troll about the upcoming 9th grade class. There have indeed been some problems with a few of the boys, and maybe your child has not been involved or you are blissfully unaware, but as mentioned previously both parents and administrators (including in the admissions office and the former head of school) have dealt with these issues.

Calling everyone a troll who has something to say that you might not like is a horrid tactic. It makes Sidwell parents look bad.

My child is in that class, and there is a group of mean boys. It is not a "problem class" at all, but Sidwell, like every single school in the country, has some mean middle-schoolers. Is this news???

Yes, I have heard one administrator actually refer to the upcoming 9th grade class as the "problem class".

I feel better now that my son was rejected and won't be joining that class. The last thing he needs is a bunch of rich mean boys.

As an alum of the school I do find all this somewhat depressing. The culture of the school has really changed for the worse. Of course it was always called Upper School so at least that hasn't changed.

The rising 10th grade is the problem class. There were discilinary problems and a bunch of kids left. As a parent of a rising 9th grader, I've seen the usual middle school social issues among some of the kids, but I'd never refer to it as a problem class. And for the record, I wouldn't hesitate to do so if I thought it was true. we chose Sidwell over several other schools because of the rich academics, not the rich kids. Every private school has its set of rich, spoiled kids and they all have lots of nice kids who are more inclined to buckle down and take advantage of all these schools have to offer. I don't think the kids at Sidwell are any nicer or nastier than any others.

There seems to be lots of Sidwell bashing on this board (also lots of Landon and GDS bashing) and I'm just not sure why. We declined offers at both St. Albans and Maret, but I'd never choose to bash them.

You know, there are such thing as rich, "nice" kids too.
