Ivy fetish?

Realistically for undergrad, it's UPenn, Duke, Columbia, Yale > UChicago, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins > Cornell, Vanderbilt

Duke booster. You realize Cornell is an Ivy.

NP... Cornell is the weakest ivy for undergrad by a good amount. I would agree with PP's classification, UPenn, Duke, Columbia, Yale > UChicago, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins > Cornell, Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt could make a case for the middle grouping in the next decade though, it's been getting quite popular.

I don’t even know what “the weakest ivy” means. But it’s well known fact that Cornell is the easiest to get in and the hardest to get out ivy.

It does not matter what you or the PP think. Most kids will choose UPenn, Columbia, or Yale over Duke if given the choice.

At DD's school we had a kid pick Duke over Yale this year. We've also seen lots pick Duke over UPenn in our area. Not much anecdote on Duke vs Columbia but I imagine they split kids somewhat evenly at least in the US. Internationally kids love New York though.

To use a favorite DCUM term, its an Ivy-reject school

Friend's daughter (also friend of DD) wrapping her first year. Laser focused on getting admitted when in HS. Not quite what she expected, but I can't tell if that is the school or if she really misses her HS life. Probably a combo of both. DD thought friend would transfer but didn't happen.

Not exactly. They definitely lose a lot of students to ivies but they likely win a majority of cross-admits against Cornell at least.

Why Duke parents are so insecure. it is a great school, but please do not try to twist with the truth. If you want anyway, just say Duke > HYPSM.

DS loved it when he visited, applied RD, and was rejected. But his school list looked very different than your kid's list. He may have liked Duke if he had a shot, but many of the privates on your list weren't even remotely on his radar. He liked mostly public schools - schools people seemed happy and academics/student life was well rounded. Going to UCSB.

Not a Duke parent lol... I'm talking about Northwestern, did you not see what I responded to? I'm not a Northwestern parent either just stating facts. If you want me to talk about Duke I'd say Duke > Northwestern > Cornell

Northwestern is a great school, hard to get into. I’d say peers with Cornell and Hopkins.

It's still the Eighties on DCUM.

Who makes up these wacky orders, and why do you think we care about your opinion of parsing amongst these top tier schools? These tiering pists are so tedious.

OP, ED does not give much of a bump at any of these schools, and NU, like the others listed, is extremely hard to get into. We are public school. Friend was desperate for NU in ED. Excellent student, state level awards. Rejected. My kid got in RD. It's a great school, but she chose elsewhere because of course selection. FWIW, she had excellent choices in RD. It does happen.

No, they lose cross admits to even Cornell.

Maybe those kids want to run a Ramada Inn or a farm.

Nothing wrong with that!! Not everyone needs to be, or should be, in finance.

Just pointing out there are specific curricular reasons why someone might select a school over another.
