I love this. Love having things that go with special occasions. This is a perfect example. Mine is cheese balls (Utz or Planters) at New Years only. Speaking of which a giant canister of cheese balls is great for a road trip, but very messy with orange powder. And when you empty the giant barrel you can pee in it if you get stuck in traffic. |

Fruits and nuts. That really keep you going. As much as I like the salty chip, they make you feel tired after eating so many bags on a road trip. |
Road trips is the only time I chew gum. Usually my kids will have some for me. ![]() |
Pringle’s are a road trip favorite
Whopper Jr for the dog Always almonds too |
If the trip is 4 hrs or under, I only pack a granola bar and make one bathroom/coffee stop.
If it’s a longer road trip, or one at night when I might need stimulation, I like to pack a sandwich from home (or pick up from the deli on my way out of town) and something salty/sweet like candied nuts. Also, if I am the passenger, I’m more willing to eat pretzels, chips, etc but when I’m driving I hate a mess. |
I LOVE BAGELS ON ROAD TRIPS |
Those 100 calorie bags of unsalted almonds or walnuts
Bags of chestnuts Apples |
Sun Chips -- French Onion
Short anecdote -- early on, we really couldn't afford eating "out" a full meal on the few road trips to relatives and we'd pack sandwiches and drinks for the family. But DH would pull into a convenience store before we got on the road and everyone could pick "one" treat. The kids got creative and one would pick salty and the other sweet and share/trade. It was sooooo cute. To this day, he'll get me a bag of Sun Chips before a trip (because I never got anything different)! Next trip? In just a few weeks to see oldest DC at college!! ![]() |

Wawa cheese stuffed soft pretzels
Herr's potato chips hard boiled eggs cheese cubes Cheez-its dried mango honey cashews marcona almonds with salt |
Do you think it's easy to find your preferred flavor of Sun Chips? I like the plain kind on road trips, and it always feels like gas stations have everything but the plain ones. I wonder if people who like the flavored ones are muttering about how there only seem to be plain ones. |
Not exactly the same, as we eat bagels at home maybe once a month, but for DH if we’re on vacation he always orders a bagel with smoked salmon breakfast. He never, ever gets the smoked salmon at home - not at restaurants, nor do we buy it for the house. To him, nothing says “vacation” like a hotel bagel & lox spread. |
Combos are only for sale at rest stops. Right? I’ve never bought them elsewhere. |
Pretzel Combos for snacks. Royal Farms for chicken biscuit/chicken sliders for breakfast or lunch. |
